Tommy Ford

Actor Thomas Mikal Ford, aka Tommy Ford, passed away Wednesday from complications of a ruptured abdominal aneurysm. He was 52.

According to gossip tabloid TMZ, Ford was in an Atlanta hospital on life support from complications of an aneurysm in his abdomen.

His wife, Gina, told TMZ Ford had been hospitalized on life support since Sunday.

Ford starred in all 5 seasons of the hit TV sitcom Martin, featuring comedian Martin Lawrence.

The site of the aneurysm is most likely the descending aorta behind the abdomen.

The aorta is the largest artery in the body that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the abdomen, arms and legs.

This major artery contains oxygenated blood that is under pressure. The blood pressure causes a weak spot in the aorta to swell like a bubble (aneurysm). If the bubble bursts, it is fatal.

Jonathan Larson, writer of the hit Broadway play RENT, also died from this condition.
