LeBron James

Were you wondering why LeBron James wore a rather large safety pin on his lapel on the cover of Sports Illustrated's "Sportsperson of the Year" issue?

It turns out James wore the safety pin in silent protest of Donald Trump, who won the presidential election by a landslide over Hillary Clinton.

The Huffington Post explained that James and other Trump haters fasten safety pins to their clothing to align themselves with "groups who have been maligned by Trump, to show that they stand in solidarity with anyone who might be afraid.".

Afraid of what?

All that James and the other pin wearers seem to have in common is their irrational fear and hatred of all things Trump.

James, who jumped on the Hillary Clinton bandwagon in the days leading up to the election, recently refused to stay at the luxury Trump SoHo hotel when the Cavaliers traveled to New York to play the Knicks.

James stubbornly requested to stay in a separate hotel that didn't have Trump's name on it.

Rather than cancel all the rooms, Cavs general manager David Griffin told the Associated Press that he made reservations for a group of black players "that wants to be together elsewhere.”

It's not very sporting of James to be such a sore loser.

  • Vonn

    Good for him!!

  • Rachel

Kudos to Lebron! So many black athletes are so afraid to take a stand, cause they don't want to lose endorsements or what to accepted by Caucasians. Ima firm believer of what God has for you it is you. Lebron ain't pressed for money or acceptance.

  • iWasteTime

I was not a fan of LeBron the player or the man. This year, he has really turned my view of him around!
I loved Mr. Carters speech when presenting him with the award as well.

  • L.T.L. Since 2007

You know is serious when donald trump can get Sandra to turn on Lebron.

I thought he was about the only man that could get her to wear lipstick and a skirt.

  • Irony

    Stand for what YOU believe!

  • ?Patty Kakes?

It all seems kind'a petty to me

  • Keesh5000

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

I love me some LeBron and his beautiful humbled wife Savannah. Jay killed that speech.

  • Tynamight

All that James and the other pin wearers seem to have in common is their irrational fear and hatred of all things Trump.

  • SpillyNillie

He doesn't have to support trump if he doesn't want to.

  • SugarFoot a.k.a Ty

Yes I like Van too chile

  • Keesh5000

Im just looking forward to these next 4 years. Stupid is on its way.. Trump so damn Gawdy, bet hes gonna have his name and Tacky shit everywhere

  • brooklyn23

Take a stand for what? The wrong things people wanna take a stand with. Sandra I'm with you, Trump may not be all great but he is the lesser evil. If I truly had to choose I'd rock with him rather than Hillary ( who be using other people's money and had mad people murdered) shithead

  • SugarFoot a.k.a Ty

Love the jacket!!! I wish someone would dress Cam Newton

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    I like him.
And I am NOT on any level a "sports person".

  • hi-liter

    Tacky Gold chit.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    Gurl, STOP!

  • NYTimes#1Bestseller

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    What speech?
    Jay Z?

  • Keesh5000

And wait a minute. Why is it so bad for people to not support their President. I remember when Obama was elected, people could have spit on him if they had the chance....there was so much dag on hate!!! But we are suppose to accept Trump just because...because what...hes WHITE. Obama was hated because he was a Biracial Man, moving his BLACK family into the white house. Go back and look at it! ...Google got everything

  • NYTimes#1Bestseller

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    Stupid is on its way.

Chile please! Stupid is already here.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    What does?

  • LoneWolf86

HRC got over 2.5 million MORE votes than Trump and yet he won the election? That is NOT how a democracy is suppose to work.

  • Keesh5000

Trump set up and said his self during the campaign that when he does win (he knew he was gonna win because he knew it was rigged his way) watch how all of them come and start kissing my fingertips and bending to their knees and he was right....SANDRA ROSE

  • L.T.L. Since 2007

Although, I personally think the whole safety pin movement, which was started by passive white women wanting to assuage some personal guilt, quite stupid, I applaud Lebron for taking a stand.

Now I just wish he and his stylist would have a sit down with All Live Mattering, sassy ass dressing Cam Newton.

  • nick c

It's a Republic a common mistake among us Americans.

  • Keesh5000

I just want him to get all his hair shaved....... that is all

  • SugarFoot a.k.a Ty

    right *hollering*

  • LoneWolf86

You've been brainwashed. Hillary received over 2 MILLION more votes than Trump and yet he still won. The US is no longer a democracy. There is growing evidence that Russia had a hand is electing Trump. But you and Sandra are OK with that?

  • taurus_32

I wish his teammates would tell him his outfits are a tragedy smh

  • LoneWolf86

Still you're ok with that? When elections no longer represent the will of the majority how can you be ok with that?

  • Sucker Free

SI could have photoshopped it in ?

  • Roderick2011

LaBron is going hard against The Donald.

It will be an interesting four years especially if the Cavaliers win another championship and are invited to the White House.

  • Taylor Shirene

#blacklivesmatter not a Lebron fan, but I too support the cause.

  • Keesh5000

And Trump will have mad people murdered as well, he has great responsibility on his hands and collateral damage is a part of our process... Just hope you or your family members are never in that situation because in order to save 1 million people, you will make the decision to take out 30 lives. Trump think its a game, a game that he is willing to play with our lives and not care as long as his is spared

  • Keesh5000

When I found out my vote didnt even count....I said, I thought it was up to the people!!!! RIght... guess not

  • Keesh5000

I wish he would tell himself....... I got to stop this shyt

  • Roderick2011

nick c: It's a Republic a common mistake among us Americans.

But the Senate is supposed to take care of the Republic part of the U.S. Constitution.

The House is supposed to represent the people but thanks to the extreme gerrymandering by the Republicans Democrats represent more Americans than do Republicans, and the Electoral College was created to keep the slave states in the Union and now their disproportionate impact is going to be felt for years to come.

  • Look@m3

Sore loser dang Sandra that's kind of harsh. I didn't vote for Trump either (or Hilary) but to call this man a sore loser for not supporting someone inf a free country is a bit harsh.

  • nick c

Hamilton never trusted Philly or Boston so he didn't want a vote for vote democracy to decide elections. If that was the case you can win Florida, cali new york, Illinois, and Texas and win the election every 4 years. That would be even worst turmoil for the nation.

  • klwbaby

Sandra don't u think it's hypocritical of u to say the LeBron is a sore loser because he doesn't like some of Trump views but u have on multiple occasions wrote about how u didn't like what Obama did or did not accomplish...

REALLY SANDY - you are the sore loser of life.

  • taurus_32

    True! lol

  • Look@m3

That's how I see it. I am a Lebron fan and he said some garbage about one of those black victims I didn't agree with but ang Im a fan but that don't mean my thinking has to be aligned with his thinking in order for me to like this dude. Besides I love his black family. They give me life so he and savannah could do no wrong in my crazy eyes!

  • nick c

It would still be worst with even more disproportionate states. You only have to promise the world to the largest 5 states and say bunk the rest, the presidency is what caused the civil war once Lincoln won it was over. The Senate and house are mere peanuts, everyone needs a say it's not perfect but does work efficiently.

  • Roderick2011

You make no sense because that is how it is already.

No one campaigns in New York, California or Texas.
Republicans in California and New York don't bother to vote because the state is so heavily skewed toward Democrats and Democrats don't vote in Texas and other deep red states like the Dakotas, Indiana, Kansas and Idaho because the state elections are heavily skewed toward Republicans.

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

    Get it lebron

  • nick c

They receive many more votes per percentage than electoral votes. The electorarals only change every ten years with the census.

  • Look@m3

Yeah this a bit much. Maybe she doing this to get us to talk. I actually like this site but man I wish she would try to be fair. No one is perfect but come on.

  • Keesh5000

    O, Ok

  • Roderick2011

nick c: You only have to promise the world to the largest 5 states and say bunk the rest, the presidency is what caused the civil war once

    Lincoln won it was over.

    Are you really that stupid?

Individuals still have to vote to make these states extremely red or blue.

The new top five states after the 2020 census are going to be:
    4)New York
    5) Georgia

Those states are very diverse so you would have to promise each one different things.

nick c: The Senate and house are mere peanuts, everyone needs a say it's not perfect but does work efficiently

That is where legislations starts. All budgets begin in the House. Why do you think that Republicans worked so hard to gain control of the states in 2010?

Besides blue states send far more to DC than they receive.

California sends approximately $60 billion more to the federal government than it receives and is the world's sixth largest economy.

NJ only receives $0.65 for every dollar it sends to Washington DC but both of these states get short changed in the number of Senators and Congressmen that represent them, but keep pretending that this imbalance can be sustained.

  • ChocolateChick84

Beyond being a fan, I've always loved how LeBron always marches to the beat of his own drum. He does what he wants, when he wants, and how he wants to. Strategic and humble. Go head on, King James!! I love Queen James too.

  • Roderick2011

No they don't when you compare the electoral votes to the small red states.

  • Wolfperm

  • Roderick2011

Trump is already going after career federal employees in the Department of Energy who worked on climate change by requesting their names and articles that they wrote.

I hope you enjoy your little fascist dictator for the next four years but we will fight him.

BTW whom did Hillary have murdered?

  • deadellamore

GO LEBRON!!!! I'm glad to see him standing up and holding on for something he believes in. I wish more players and celebrities would follow his lead. The hatred and bigotry of the Trump election is real out here. #NOTMYPRESIDENT

One of the "by products" of the Electoral college is to guarantee that the person elected president is qualified and that no OUTSIDERS influence the elections. If it is proven that Russia helped elect donald trump, the Electoral college should do it's job.

  • klwbaby

Don't hold your breath waiting on her to be fair....

  • Keesh5000

And that is why Hillary asked Trump on that final debate that he vows to not having any outside influences in this campaign... The current President said that the people have elected its next President but also called for an investigation into Outside influences during this campaign.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

No disrespect but I really don't wanna get into a long drawn out discussion about this. All I'm saying is he won. There's nothing you can really do about it. I'm simply saying let it go and work on making a change next term.

Remember the picture of trump sitting down with President Obama? Everybody was speculating on what the President said to make trump look like he was going to be sick. I think President Obama told Cheetos in no uncertain terms that he didn’t really win the election and the only thing keeping him from not exposing him to the American people was the fact that half of them were more BAT SHYT CRAZY than trump himself. This is not about Clinton or trump anymore. This is some serious shid and there is no way to fix it without dividing this country more than it already is.

  • Dakota H

Da*m right she never misses an opportunity to bash president Obama and Hillary Clinton.

  • Dakota H

Very true she never says a negative thing about trump. Maybe he got her on his payroll or something.

  • Dakota H

Lol he and some of the others players might not go

  • Renee26
  • Renee26

Bravo to Lebron for making it known that he is down for the equal rights of everyone! Sandra stop spreading lies and start spreading love... get you a safety pin

  • sexycat

Way to go LeBron... Well I guess we know who Sandra voted for...

  • Fendi aka Erin Blockabitch

  • Lotus

The purpose of the safety pin is inaccurate it's not about being anti trump is about standing in solidarity anyone we faces discrimination as result of Trumps rhetoric. It's to show you are a safe place.

  • nicelyput32

I like Savannah too. She seems to care nothing about the spotlight unlike other basketball wives.

  • CapricornIce

    LeBron is ?bae.

  • CapricornIce

Typical Cap. We are leaders never followers.

  • CapricornIce

I'm pretty sure LeBron doesn't care.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

I asked because it was a vague statement and I had no genuine idea of whom you were speaking of.
    *Exhale, sis*

  • Ridingfinest

Why is he a sore loser if he don't want to patronize an establishment of a man who views are opposite of his own?? That's his right!!!

  • RationalThinkersUnite

Lebron, Lebron, Lebron. Why didn't you refuse to play at the Staples Center after the Donald Sterling scandal? Why are supporting a $140M upgrade to your home Arena when you managed to win a NBA championship with the same facilities? Cleveland public schools are the 2nd worse in the country, right behind Detroit. Lebron use your influence for better things please.

  • RationalThinkersUnite

Question: Iif Trump won the popular vote AND the electoral vote, would your opinion change? Trump has repeatedly stated that he did not set out
to win the popular vote. Why? Because that doesn't guarantee a win -
winning the electoral college does. It has been reported that if Trump
campaigned for the popular vote, he would've won that by a landslide as

  • Liah

    Sandra u crazy...LMAO...!!!

  • Guess Who

Has Lebron ever looked 20 something...while in his 20s? He looks to be about 43 years old. Da fuq?

  • Tony Shrewkly

Soooooooooooo, since he's not in favor of Dufus Trump he a sore loser. GTFOOH and get a real Role Model Sandford !

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

    Loving Bronnie more and more....

  • soflystann

Why are we focusing on the golden pin? The real focus is that hairline... In my KEISHA COLE "YOU JUST GOTTA LET IT GO"!

  • Low E. TUH!

It turns out James wore the safety pin in silent protest of Donald Trump, who won the presidential election by a landslide over Hillary Clinton.

  • datATLboi

LOL @ landslide----3 million more votes in total than Trump would Disagree

  • Elevated Soul

There were over 3 million ILLEGALS that voted. This is truth whether you choose to believe it of not.

In fact President Trump won over 2623 counties while Clinton "won" 489. In other words president Trump won over 83% of the nation. He also won the electoral college by a landslide and to boot several states were stolen from President Trump.Sounds like a landslide to anyone with some "political"sense.

It's time for the "Alt-Left", to stop acting as if California and New York State decide the vote for the country.

  • Elevated Soul

LeBron James didn't protest "the half white Obama" treatment toward Blacks but he finds time to wear a silly pin.The "Alt-Left" need to have several hot bucket seats because right now,you looking too fool.

  • brooklyn23

Brainwashed? I'm not speaking of votes, I'm speaking of how evil Hillary and her husband are. Are you informed?

  • brooklyn23

Research love. She has a lot of blood on her hands. Not to mention how they did Haiti dirty and imprisoned black men wtf

  • Roderick2011

No you tell me., love since you made the accusation.
But you're the typical Trumper---all accusations and no proof.

  • yoliewinecorporation

Whatever this whining ass dude. Ugh

  • brooklyn23

I don't care for either . All politicians are full of shit. But trump is the lesser evil

  • SumthinSweeter

Sandarose needs a hug and some D. Smh.

  • datATLboi

lol it's amazing how powerful denial is nowadays

  • acire

    Than that damn TV show!

  • RationalThinkersUnite

    What TV show?

  • Shira Harding-James

    Is he balding

  • middleagerant42

I don't blame him. Trump is appointing known white supremacists and crooks who have bilked the public for millions of dollars. I wouldn't stay there either. I would have slept on the bus first.

  • middleagerant42

I just don't believe those stats especially when the cia believes Russia had a hand in the results. If he actually won at that level why is there such an out cry? California had one of the biggest voter turn out in years.

  • nick c

When they said white people were gonna pay back reparations lol I remember the hype quite well.

  • VanillaCaramel2shotsExpresso

I wear safety pins every day protesting the price of high price clothes! I refuse to buy clothes in a smaller size and pay 50 more for less material ! So me and Bron Bron we both rocking safety pins ???

  • Tea??

Just shave off that hair Lebron. Wouldn't kneel during the anthem but chooses to wear a safety pin in protest of Donald trump? ????

  • VM

Sadly, yes it's been that way for a long time.

  • IGuess

I'm not even sure people know why they hate Trump! Ain't nothing to like about killary.

  • Tr

So anyone who opposes Trump is 'Alt-Left'?!?!
Oh, ok....makes sense to ppl like you, I guess..

  • Roderick2011

So you have absolutely no facts to back up your accusations so you change the subject.

Trump is not the lesser of the evils if you've been paying attention.

Trump cancelled his news conference the other where he was supposed to tell us how he was going to avoid his conflicts of interest.

We keep hearing whispers that Trump's plan is to turn over control of his businesses to his children to avoid such conflicts.

Just yesterday we found out we find out that Donald Jr. interviewed potential nominees for Secretary for the Interior and then they attended the meeting with the Silicon Valley big wigs.

But I am sure you'll continue to claim that Hillary is more corrupt that Trump just to keep from admitting that Trump is a fraud who only got elected to enrich himself and his children.

  • kekeb

Your point is???? The man has the right to do both...

Lebron might be alot of things, but a loser he will never be. (Sore) He has the right to choose and he chose! Why does it upset people that not everyone is drinking the Tang? Much respect Lebron!!!

  • realtalkallday

  • mozart

Sore Loser? Lets take a look Down memory lane as it wasn't too long ago. Trump allowed Blacks to be victimized at his rallies. He insulted Kelly Morgan. He ridiculed veterans, the disabled, and Mexicans, and you cant understand why LeBron James doesn't desire to stay there. Please...

  • Elevated Soul

LMAO!! You can dish it but can't take it.

I turned that ish around on you. ...You know damn well that "The Alt-Left" got labels for anyone, that disagree with your INTOLERANT selves.
