Vanity Fair Mexico magazine taunted President Trump by putting an old photo of his wife, former model Melania Trump, on its cover.
The February 2017 cover features Melania, 46, sitting at a table pretending to eat a bowl of long strands of diamonds twisted around a fork like spaghetti.
The magazine tweeted a photo of the cover on the same day Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto abruptly canceled a planned meeting with Trump in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
The tweet reads:
“No, this is not a history of flattery. We invited them to read an advanced copy of this mews article on Melania Trump. A report that reveals the past of this intriguing lady.”
Nieto canceled his meeting with Trump after the president refused to back down on demands that Mexico foot the $20 billion cost to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
Trump also suggested he may charge a hefty 20% import tax on goods imported from Mexico into the U.S.
By Friday afternoon the tweet was deleted.
