Hopes soared on Wednesday when Pastor Darrell Scott told President Trump he was contacted by “some of the top gang thugs” in Chicago to discuss “lowering the body count”.
Scott, who is senior pastor at Cleveland’s New Spirit Revival Center, was at the White House on Wednesday to honor Black History Month.
Scott told Trump he planned to meet with the top gang members in 2 weeks to discuss a moratorium on gang violence in a city that registered the highest murder rate in the U.S. in 2016.
Trump responded: “If they’re not going to solve the problems, what you’re doing is the right thing, then we’re going to solve the problem for them. Because we’re going to have to do something about Chicago. ‘Cause what’s happening in Chicago should not be happening in this country.”
Fox 32 in Chicago reached out to Pastor Scott to confirm the meeting.
“No! I mean, c’mon now!” Scott laughed. He told the station he “misspoke” and he said he was “tired”.
Scott said he actually spoke to one former gang member, and not to any current gang bangers.
So the carnage will continue on the streets of Chicago until President Trump sends the troops in.
