A 28-year-old Army veteran from Baltimore told police he drove to overpopulated New York City to carry out his racist plot to attack black people.
James Harris Jackson is suspected of fatally stabbing 66-year-old drifter Timothy Caughman. Police say Jackson used a 26-inch long mini sword to repeatedly stab Caughman in the chest and back on Monday night.
The mortally wounded man staggered into a nearby police precinct for help, while Jackson calmly walked into a restaurant restroom to wash blood off his clothes and shoes, according to published reports.
Investigators say the savage attack was random and “clearly racially motivated”.
Jackson later turned himself in at a Times Square substation. “You need to arrest me. I have the knife in my coat. I’m the man you’re looking for,” Jackson told police. The murder weapon was recovered in his coat pocket.
The white supremacist is a member of a documented hate group from Maryland, according to police.
Jackson is charged with murder and is being held at Midtown South precinct without bond.
According to published reports, Jackson was caught on surveillance video “stalking” another black man int he area.
Jackson, is a white supremacist who attended Wesleyan University in Ohio. He drove to New York from Baltimore, Maryland explicitly to kill black men.
He was staying in a flop house on West 36th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
He is described as a “fame-seeker” who posted numerous photos of himself with celebrities on Twitter.com.
