Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée and 4-year-old daughter were spotted in public after news broke that the former Patriots TE hanged himself in prison.
Shayanna Jenkins and her daughter, Avielle Hernandez, were seen outside her modest rented townhouse on the Louisquisset Golf Course in North Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday.
Hernandez was found hanging in his cell at a maximum security prison in Shirley, Massachusetts early Wednesday. The 27-year-old convicted murderer planned his suicide for weeks, according to published reports.
The Daily Mail UK reports he gave away personal items to fellow inmates and he soaped the floor of his tiny cell so he couldn’t get a firm footing in case he lost his nerve and decided not to go through with it.
He also reportedly jammed cardboard into the tracks of his cell door to make it difficult for guards to gain entry.
Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the shooting death of his friend, semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd in 2013, who was engaged to Jenkins’ sister.
But according to an obscure Massachusetts doctrine, his conviction will be thrown out. Technically, Hernandez died an innocent man.
The Patriots may have to pay Hernandez’s family over $5 million in bonus money and guaranteed salary. The money will likely go to his only child, Avielle.
Jenkins and Hernandez never married. She put the couple’s 5,600 sq. ft. North Attleboro, Mass. mansion on the market for $1.5 million last year.
