A girl who survived a car crash that killed four of her classmates is listed in stable condition at Grady hospital. Lexus Todd was pulled out of the back seat of a Lincoln Navigator after Monday’s deadly collision with a tractor-trailer in south Fulton County.
Lexus and the four deceased boys were classmates at Langston Hughes High School in southwest Atlanta. Her legs were crushed and she suffered bleeding on the brain, her grandmother told Channel 2 Action News.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the four students who were killed in the crash.
The students, identified late Tuesday, are Isaiah Gregory, 15, Cameron Jones, 16, Ke’Ariy Lopez 14, and Octavious Rhodes, 16.
The accident happened about 1:17 p.m. Monday, when the driver of the SUV ran a red light at Ga. 92 and Butner Road, according to the Fulton County Police Dept. The driver was ejected from the SUV. It isn’t clear if the students were wearing seat belts.
The tractor-trailer driver was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
The school system provided grief counselors for students and staff after the tragic accident.
“It’s very quiet,” said Anissa Williams, a parent of a student at the school. “I’ve never gone into any school where there’s hundreds of children and heard the silence I heard today. And I can truly say it was birthed out of pain.”
