A forthcoming biography reveals former President Barack Obama considered “gayness” as an alternative to heterosexuality. The biography by David Garrow, “Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama,” portrays Obama as an ideological college student who was willing to date men.
For years, rumors swirled that Obama was a closeted bisexual. The biography, which comes out on May 9, lays to rest some of the speculation surrounding Obama’s pro-LGBT activism while in office.
via Daily Caller — In a chapter about the former president’s two years at Occidental College, Garrow reveals a close relationship Obama had with an openly gay assistant professor named Lawrence Goldyn.
“Three years later, Obama wrote somewhat elusively to his first intimate girlfriend that he had thought about and considered gayness, but ultimately had decided that a same-sex relationship would be less challenging and demanding than developing one with the opposite sex,” Garrow wrote.
Garrow is a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer, and is a regular contributor to The New York Times and The Washington Post. He considers Obama among his friends.
