As expected, President Donald Trump announced the United States is withdrawing from the 2015 Paris climate accord agreement. The president added that he would “begin negotiations to reenter either the Paris accord or an entirely new transaction.”

President Trump made his announcement from the White House Rose Garden on Thursday afternoon. Mayors in Democratic cities took to Twitter.com to assure their citizens that their cities will follow through on the climate agreement.

THe Mayor of Pittsburgh challenged Trump after he said, “I was elected by voters of Pittsburgh, not Paris. I promised I would exit or negotiate any deal which fails to serve U.S. interests.”

Mayor Bill Peduto tweeted: “As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future.”

By pulling out of the accord, the president fulfilled one of his key campaign promises. The accord was officially entered into by former President Obama in 2015.

The purpose of the Paris climate accord was to reduce green gases globally to save the environment. But critics say the Paris accord was flawed because it was based on politics, not science.

Critics say the agreement would hurt the industrial sector and would result in the loss of over 1 million jobs.

CEO’s of major corporations begged President Trump not to withdraw. But he responded, “I’m hearing from a lot of people, both ways. Both ways.”

As promised, Tesla’s Elon Musk announced he was quitting as President Trump’s advisor after Trump announced the withdrawal.

“Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world,” Musk tweeted on Thursday.
