The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is backing a move to make smaller condoms because the standard size — 6.69 inches — is too big for most men.
The average penis size is 5.57 inches — a full one inch smaller than the average condom.
The FDA believes the policy change will encourage more men to wear condoms because the standard sized condom falls off during sex.
Recent CDC figures show just a third of single men use rubbers, and one of the most common reasons for non-users is that the condoms come off (no pun intended).
Now the Food and Drug Administration says there is a need for smaller condoms to lower the rates of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
The agency has made a policy change to allow manufacturing companies to make condoms of all sizes.
The FDA has given the green light to myONE Perfect Fit, a custom brand of condoms made by Boston company Global Protection Corp.
“You might be able to squeeze your large hands into a size-small glove, but that doesn’t mean it will be comfortable to wear,” says David Wedel, president of myONE Condoms.
“We want the world to know you shouldn’t have to sacrifice comfort for safety when it comes to condoms. Whether big, small or in between, myONE has a condom perfect for you.”
ONE Condoms allows men to custom order their perfect fit by uploading their measurements to the company website, or men can print a measuring kit from the website.
