A 44-year-old man fell out of a window and plunged four floors to his death after he was accused of groping a 6-year-old boy. Edgar Collaguazo died after attending a birthday party for the boy in his Queens apartment early Thursday.
Police say Collaguazo fell out of the window of his Jackson Heights apartment at 1:05 a.m. Thursday after fleeing the furious parents of the birthday boy.
“If he didn’t have a filthy mind, (he’d) simply stay and face the situation,” the boy’s mother told the Daily News.
Police responding to the 911 call found Collaguazo’s lifeless body outside his apartment near the intersection of 95th St. near 35th Ave.
The boy and his parents lived in a bedroom in Collaguazo’s apartment, police say.
According to the Daily News, the party was underway when Collaguazo invited at least three of the children — including the birthday boy and his 5-year-old female cousin — into a bedroom to watch a movie.
The girl’s mom said she noticed a change in her behavior when she emerged from the bedroom.
“The little girl was happy and well, and then suddenly, she came out, but, she looked different,” the birthday boy’s mother said.
The boy’s father peeked into the room and saw nothing out of the ordinary. But when the little girl’s mother looked into the room, she says she saw Collaguazo fondling the birthday boy’s genitals.
“She came to me frightened and crying,” the boy’s mom said. “We never thought the man had a mind this dirty.”
Chaos ensued as the men at the party began beating Collaguazo. “I told them, ‘Stop beating him, already! I have called the police,'” the victim’s mother told the Daily News.
Collaguazo fled into his bedroom and the furious parents locked him inside.
Later, when the parents looked into the room, Collaguazo was gone. When they looked out the window they saw Collaguazo’s body laying on the ground.
A witness leaving a friend’s house across the street told police he saw Collaguazo struggle to climb over burglar bars.
“The guy had one foot on the ledge trying to climb over the bars,” Jose Valentine said. “He let himself go head first and landed with a thud and splatter. It sounded like a pumpkin fell off the roof.”
A surveillance video obtained by the Daily News shows Collaguazo landing belly first onto an iron gate and flop lifelessly to the ground.
Collaguazo’s estranged wife, Rocio Marin, 49, refuses to believe the molestation allegations.
She said she wants answers, according to the Daily News.
“I want to know what actually happened,” Marin said. “Everybody just blamed it on him.”
