Serena Williams finally got the star-studded wedding she’s always dreamed of. The 36-year-old tennis superstar and Reddit.com co-founder Alexis Ohanion exchanged “I do’s” at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans on Thursday night.
Serena shared the details of her stunning off-white lace wedding gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
“I flew to London to meet with Sarah and ended up falling in love with the ball gown silhouette, which is completely the opposite of what I ever thought I would choose for myself,” she told Vogue.
“I loved the idea of doing a really spectacular ball gown, and it has turned out to be such an incredibly special piece,” she gushed.
Sarah Burton also designed the wedding gown for Prince Williams‘s bride Kate Middleton.
Vogue magazine released the beautiful wedding photos which are a joy to behold! The images show Serena and Alexis exchanging their vows in front of guests including Serena’s sister, Venus Williams, Oracene Price, pictured holding her infant granddaughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, and friends Ciara Wilson, Kelly Rowland, Prince Harry‘s girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, Boris and Nicole, and more.
For the reception, Serena changed into a beautiful off-white, strapless Versace dress with lace and feathers which she accessorized with glittery sneakers to dance with her new husband.
“They worked nonstop to make sure the tiniest details were perfectly taken care of, for a a total of 1,500 hours,” designer Donatella Versace told Vogue.
Singer Beyonce Knowles-Carter was all smiles at the reception. She looked content as she rode the carousel that was part of Serena’s elaborate Beauty & the Beast theme.
“It’s great to have Beyonce and Jay Z supporting,” Williams told E! News last September. “It’s always wonderful to see them at tennis, and it’s always good when you can just rely on someone and know that they’re always in your corner — whether they are there or not. And that’s kind of how it is with us.”
It isn’t clear if Beyonce’s husband, rapper Jay-Z was there. People magazine indicated that he was there, but in a People article published on Friday night, editors claimed he was not in attendance.
Wiliams, 36, told People she hopes to launch her own wedding dress collection one day. “My dream is to do evening wear and wedding dresses,” Williams said in 2016. She and her sister, Venus, 37, attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and they continue to help each other with designs.
“She is always looking at my sketches and is like, ‘I like that so much!’ and actually, I’m always at her office hanging out,” Serena said.
