This is why some people can’t show enthusiasm for the new fantasy and science fiction movie Black Panther. Marvel Studios spent millions on promotion and marketing for a movie about a superhero in a mythical African nation.
Critics are raving about the film, which they say blends politics, culture and activism better than any Marvel movie to date.
One of the film’s stars, Lupita Nyong’o (pictured center), actually said Black Panther could “unite the country”.
But after Marvel Studios recoups its million dollar budget and sits back and watches the profits pour in, will they donate some of that cash to help feed hungry families in the real Africa?
Black Panther is on track for a $100 million to $120 million opening.
Will Marvel Studios build schools in Africa or donate money for wells to provide clean water to children in East Africa?
If only we could be as enthusiastic about Africa as we are about a fantasy movie.
