Rowdy Philadelphia Eagles fans celebrated the team’s first ever Super Bowl win by destroying property, overturning cars, and setting fires in the Center City area after the Eagles upset the New England Patriots 41-33 in Minneapolis on Sunday.
Philadelphians lit fires in the street, overturned cars and threw debris through a Macy’s window minutes after the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in team history.
The Philadelphia police and members of the fire department surrounded city hall to prevent property damage and helped put out fires as drunken fans celebrated in the streets.
In one bizarre ritual that could have ended badly, dozens of fans stood atop a Ritz Hotel canopy awning waiting their turn to perform “trust falls” — throwing themselves into the crowd below in the hopes they would be caught.
The canopy eventually collapse under the weight of the revelers, spilling dozens of people onto the sidewalk below. There was no word on injuries.
I cannot believe people thought that canopy would support the weight of so many people. We are so screwed as a species….
