Singer Fantasia Barrino is mourning the tragic death of her eldest nephew who was shot and killed during a gun fight in North Carolina on Tuesday morning, WENN.com reports.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ.com that the former American Idol singer’s 18-year-old nephew Tyquan, the son of her musician brother Ricco, was involved in an argument at a residential complex in Greensboro, which spilled out into the street.
Tyquan was shot multiple times, and he was transported to the nearby Moses Cone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 21-year-old suspect was arrested and has since been charged with first degree murder.
Fantasia shared the sad news on her Instagram page on Tuesday, Feb. 14, writing: “Auntie is So Sorry Baby. RIP to my Oldest Nephew Please Pray for his Mother and my Brother & his Stepdad.”
She also shared family photos of Tyquan on Instagram.com.
Ricco tells TMZ that he’s devastated about his son’s passing, and that he hadn’t seen him on Tuesday morning like he usually does.
Fantasia’s family have endured their share of tragedies over the past few months. Her younger brother Xavier was hospitalized following a serious motorcycle injury in September, and has undergone numerous surgeries and extensive physical therapy during his stay in a hospital.
