The #MeToo movement definitely needs to be applied to hip hop and R&B. Black women’s sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence and disrespect as a woman has been a serious problem that’s been over looked for far too long! Our cries for justice have always been laughed at and deeply questioned by whites and unfortunately by our own people, especially black men. The longer we stay silent as a community, the more society (police and law makers) shout, “if they don’t care about their own women, then why should we”. Since Diddy declared in GQ magazine that he’s boldly standing for black culture/black excellence, how bout he starts by making hip hop and R&B spaces safe for black women. Even THOTS concerns should be voiced. Ask yourself what caused a THOT to be a THOT? Negligence and dismissiveness by so called love ones and the community sprouts lots of pain/negative behavior. There are more Russell Simmons lurking in hip hop and R&B that need to be exposed so that a positive healing and revolution can emerge in black music and the black community.
