Camille Balla

A Royal Palm Beach woman who gouged out her mother’s eyes with shards of glass may have smoked marijuana laced with Flakka or PCP, police say. Camille Balla, 32, was arrested Friday and charged with the gruesome murder of her mother Francisca Monteiro-Balla, 55.

Police say Balla gouged out her mother’s eyes and placed the eyeballs on top of a cardboard box. She then slashed her mother’s arms, chest and stomach, leaving a blood trail throughout the house in the 100 block of Country Club Way.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the home after Balla called 911 to say, “I killed my mother and I need help.”

When asked where her mother was, Balla told them she was in the garage.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue treated Balla for severe cuts to her right hand. Balla told police she smoked marijuana that may have been laced with Flakka or PCP, the arrest report said.

Balla was taken to Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee, where she alternated between screaming and being calm. She was later transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for additional treatment, according to the Sun Sentinel.

During a search of the home, police recovered a note with religious themes that were “related to clearing of the soul,” the police report said.

Balla is being held in jail without bond, and a judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation for her.
