Alicia Winfrey and Alicia Keys

Whenever I stay in a hotel room here in Atlanta (don't ask), I always leave a nice tip (at least $20) on the nightstand for the housekeeper. Oprah Winfrey, pictured with her friend Alicia Keys, always leaves a lot more.

The media mogul, 64, tells PEOPLE she always leaves extra cash for the housekeepers when she stays in a hotel.

“This made me so happy recently: People never leave money for the housekeepers in a hotel,” Winfreys says in the new cover issue. “I usually just leave the money on the pillow, but this time I put it all over the room: under the desk, on the counter with the M&Ms, in the shower. As I was leaving, I was like, “Somebody is going to be happy today, yes!'"

Alicia Keys hooked up with Oprah at an event on Monday. She captioned an Instagram photo: "Me and my Aquarian sister Miss @Oprah [2 heart emojis] laughs, connections and real talk!! She drops those [gems] Love this lady!! #TheVoice".

  • BallsJustFloppinRound

Lmao nah Oprah tip the front desk instead unless your room is really dirty; they get the brunt of everything!
Housekeeping get they tips already... what's not in the lost & found is at the pawn shop baby yeahhhh.

    ::briefly considers career as housekeeper::

very nice of oprah. i got nothing for home wreckers like keys.

  • Liah

    I second this!

this is so true! i lost my favorite leather jacket at a hotel. called housekeeping after i realized it was gone... woman was like “whet coat, bih.” ?

  • BallsJustFloppinRound

Oh lordt smh yeah thats gone, and don't let anybody leave some jewelry... Maria gone cash in bih ?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

keep giving Oprah we love you... ?

  • Rayne

How sweet. Not a fan of keys.

  • Yay Oprah!

That’s why I love Oprah. Most rich people are the stingiest.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Usher and his wife announced they're separating. I'm surprised we havent gotten a post on that yet.

  • ?Royalty?

  • MsPam

Usher is going through a midlife crises, I recently saw him getting a tattoo under his neck.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I actually liked him and Grace Miguel together. She seemed like a good match for him. I wonder if these recent herpes scandals killed their marriage.

  • MsPam

Yeah I thought that it was going to last a little longer but he’ll be forty this year and you know when SOME men turn 40 they get itchy.

  • Quitedeliteful

I'm surprised.... I thought they were going to last a lot longer....

  • Renee26

Is this real?? I leave them $5 a day.... If Oprah is leaving $20 i need to lower my tip amount cause I've been overpaying

  • Quitedeliteful

lLOLLOLLOL!!!! She prolly wore it home...

  • Renee26

    Ya think???

  • Vonn

Could be the herpes that's making him itchy.

  • Cannelle

right!?! lol, prolly had it on while talking to me on the phone ?

  • MoniquetheGeek

Sandra is leaving $20 for her secret rendezvous lol. Oprah, I'm sure, is leaving more than $20. You're better than me cause I leave $2.00/day.

  • abby500

They walked right into that! ???

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

i think that was her name too ?? lawd!!! flexing in the lost and found

  • MsPam

That was a good one! I set myself up for that!

  • MsPam

    Yes I did!

  • Coy little wink

Soo...shaderoom says Usher and Grace are calling it quits. Where is the tea Auntie????

  • Nikkiknows

Sandra! Usher and Grace are called that! Selling the house...

  • Indies beauty

I leave with my room cleaned... a thank you note and a dub. I think it's polite.

  • MJ

Not true. I cleaned rooms at a high end Hotel in New Orleans while in Nsg school. Some of the hardest work I’ve done and tips were few and far in between. We were the hardest working folks there and paid the least. Tip your housekeepers!

  • i troll it like i see it

Nope I'm going to ask, why are you getting a room all over Atlanta Sandra?

  • Monday

Did she said people never leave tip at the hotel????
Regular folks do it all the time. Going to Cuba people leave baskets of medecines, feminine and male hygiene and things like that.

Is this a slow news day?? Why she needs to share this after decades of making millions?? I am a bit confused

  • Renee26

Yeah O could leave a 20 in each spot and still be ok... Sandra's not leaving no big tip like that LOL

  • Tammie Reed

That is so cute of her, recently did an interview with Oprah about the upcoming film, "A Wrinkle in Time" in Los Angeles, she was fun for sure!

  • Vonn

I couldn't help myself. I know what you meant though. ?

  • Vonn

  • MoniquetheGeek

Sandra's not leaving no big tip like that LOL
"Whenever I stay in a hotel room here in Atlanta (don’t ask), I always leave a nice tip (at least $20) on the nightstand for the housekeeper."

  • BallsJustFloppinRound

Oh Very True. I worked in a hotel for over 5 years at the San Luis Resort in Galveston and many others. Housekeeping has basic repetitive work, once in a while they get the "wtf happened in here room" but were never alone. And yes the hell we do find evrything not found in rooms at a pawn shop or for sell online.

At the front desk though we are the ones who hold the toughest position. Think, if the customers starts with us then we're setting the bar of expectation. People literally go to the front desk for everything and we have to deal with everything. No matter how many departments that are within the hotel, there is one consistently dealing with bullshit.

Front desk definitely deserves the tip more, and idk where you work but our housekeeping starts at $10 & front desk starts at $10 so you tell me whats fair.

  • You Could Never

Thanks to those who appreciate their service workers!!!!! It's thankless work and those housekeepers, cooks, wait staff etc DO appreciate it! Trust me I know.

  • Wreckognize Game

I don't hate AKeys but I did want to throw water on her when she sang this GIRL IS ON FIYAH

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

Leaving money all over is a narcissistic act.
She could of left the cash on the table or whatever.

But that aside it was very nice of her...she can afford it

  • SaltineCrackers

Oprah sounds like a clueless child, regular people leave money for housekeepers all the time.

LOL! Sandra we want to know...

  • Oretta Grace Smith

  • VernadineTheQueen?

I always leave a tip for the house keepers on my last night stay! ?????

  • HalleMerry

Auntie has needs, just like the rest of us.?

  • HalleMerry

    Is Auntie the side chick????

  • MJ

I don’t want anything that doesn’t belong to finding stuff was of no benefit to me.
The hotel I worked for (this was over a decade ago) was four diamond rated and had to be cleaned to meticulous standards. We worked very hard(mardi gras, essence fest, sugar bowl, decadence fest, jazz fest, etc..this is New Orleans and trust me when I tell you the messes were crazy that we would have to clean up) and it seemed not enough people appreciated that. I’ve stayed in many hotels myself and sorry, but a clean room is always the most appreciated aspect of my stay. Always..but that’s just me, so it makes no sense to not tip the people who are probably most involved in how comfortable your stay is on a day to day basis. I rarely need anything from front desk. Im not suggesting front desk shouldn’t be tipped, just that housekeeping should also be tipped.

  • MsPam

    It’s okay that’s what I get!?

  • Renee26

Oh, I see I read it wrong... As if Oprah was being quoted

  • Lucky8

Don't forget to give your tips to your employer, new rule from your s**tho*e so called president

  • Lolly Asher

Have to keep the peasants from burning your palace down so yeah that's just self preservation.

  • i troll it like i see it

Well I know what I was doing the last time I had to get a room lol?

  • Ebony Starr

She leaves it all over because if they are not cleaning thoroughly they won't find it.

  • Cali

Why is Oprah sitting with a fake a as black women's power whore?

  • imright

    oh stfu Oprah ??

OMG #Eyeroll ... Oprah trying to pretend like she is down... LMAOO She must have a project or something and wants some black people to see it...

  • Ebony Starr

Body language experts, what is Oprah's body language conveying?!

  • Christina Duphorn Zehnder

    20.00 that's it? SMH

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

    That’s silly.

  • Faux Gibbler

    You interviews Oprah?

  • Berry Melon

Most people book hotels for business, but you may be on point there, people also book hotels when they are looking to hook up. Personally I think people should be grateful for whatever tip they are given.

  • Berry Melon

    Sandra Rose a mistress? Lol...

  • Roderick2011

But, but Aunt Sandy said she wasn't a 'practicing' lesbian.

    Would Auntie lie to us?

  • Malcom Flex

Why the hate? Some of yall so tacky and petty. Bet ya don't tip period LOL ol cheap buzzards.

  • Boogie79

Right, she acting like she's the only one that leaves tips. While I get many people don't leave a tip, many people do.

  • Kanyade

welp, i've been committing a major faux pas, i reckon. i've never tipped housekeeping. bell boys, yeah, but housekeeping and concierge and front desk and etc. folk? nah.

good on Oprah. it's good to give.

  • missarewa

    Alicia is a gorgeous woman

  • Phyllis

    I’m diggin Alicia’s look here??

  • iAmsterdam

    She licks

  • iAmsterdam

Herpes and infidelity tends to speed up the process

  • Roderick2011

    Do you have pics?

  • Dowoop

The outfit, the face, the hair - it all looks nice.

  • Dowoop

It never even crossed my mind to tip housekeeping in a hotel.

  • Quitedeliteful

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

$20.00 is better than just leaving cum sheets and a dirty rag.....
    Right Sandy? LOL

  • Malcom Flex

Gotta tip the maids they're in a locked door with your ish you you're gone LOL

  • Malcom Flex

    You're wrong that's dirty

  • Malcom Flex

    Naw gotta tip daily

  • justlooking

    It's always a nice gesture..

I do it because they aren't paid that well, My other reason, so they will not steal my things.

    Just keeping it real.

  • iAmsterdam

    No only videos

  • tintin

so is she spreading singles all over the room??? and making the housekeepers go on a egg hunt??

Oprah should be leaving minimum $100 with her net worth. Now i just spent a weekend at a hotel and all i left was $5 per day... based on my salary that's what i can afford.

BTW.. why is this even a story??

  • Roderick2011

Oh my. What are the titles?

  • Malcom Flex

    Really? Wow.

  • Smoke

    Wow now that's not nice

  • ????? Kari ?????????

So Opray is making these claims!! Got it! Copying garbage from people rag is hilarious

  • i troll it like i see it

I was just playing. Don't really care why folks are checking into hotels in Atlanta for any reason. Last time I checked into a hotel hourly it was because me and an ex boyfriend were getting hot and heavy in the car and his mom was in town visiting and we were too far from my place so we got a damn room. People get rooms for all kinds of reasons yes!

  • itsjismemelly

ummm idk about this one makin them look all over thinkin it's more money

  • KLo

    $20 that's a JOKE

  • ?Patty Kakes?

I'm sure that made someone real happy. We all could use a little less struggle

  • Karen Brady

  • Karen Brady

Seriously? Not judging. I just thought it was like a universal unspoken 'law' if you will

  • Blue

I'm more intrigued about the "don't ask" LOL. Do tell, aunty.

  • kimberly

Not news. Its only news because its Oprah. Ordinary people do this as well.

  • Dowoop

Nope...didnt even know that was a thing.

  • ZRoJoTheLezBeyond
  • ZRoJoTheLezBeyond
  • Angela Flowers

Lol. Sandra is talking about herself in that first sentence when she says she leaves at least $20...hence the "don't ask" comment about staying in an ATL hotel since she lives there. The next sentence, she says Oprah leaves a lot more. Oprah is probably leaving hunnids...

  • Angela Flowers

  • Angela Flowers

They should be looking all over when they clean anyway lol. Maybe this will be an incentive for those lazy housekeepers in those "5 star" hotels because they did research that shows they be slackin'

  • Angela Flowers

Me too. I just started DVR'ing The Voice too because I like her on there. I never cared for that show before.

  • Angela Flowers

Mine neither lol. I guess because even though they're providing you a service, you usually don't see them in action because they clean when you're out of the room. I'll start for now.

  • Angela Flowers

It never crossed mine either. Maybe because I rarely stay in them. Although they're providing a service, they usually clean when you're out of the room so you don't see them in action which can cause someone to be oblivious to leaving a tip before checking out I guess. I have to start for now on.

  • Angela Flowers

They did research that showed "5 stars" are some of the nastiest.

  • sandraisDUMB

Wow what ever happen to the humble people in this world? Oprah you dont have to do shit and exploit it. Hella thirsty.

  • SandraRose

When your mom lives with you, your options are limited.

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

I doubt Oprah was staying at a nasty 5 Star. We getting off topic here...

  • Leigh Burton

If you work in a hotel that conceited Oprah stays in, you already make a lot of money!

  • Angela Flowers

How is it off topic? Simply responding to your "5 star" comment... It's not like they're showcasing the nastiness.
