Shooter Opens Fire at Maryland Newspaper, 5 Dead, Multiple Injuries

Capital Gazette

A lone shooter opened fire inside the Capital Gazette newspaper offices in Annapolis, MD on Thursday. 5 people are confirmed dead. Police are still trying to determine whether the shooter acted alone.

Anne Arundel County police tweeted that a lone shooter is in custody. The gunman shot through a glass door to gain entry to the newspaper’s editorial room.

The building did not have security.

Gazette reporter Phil Davis tweeted that multiple co-workers were shot. He did not declare anyone dead, but he said, “It’s bad.”

Liberal news outlets such as CNN — a frequent target of President Trump for being purveyors of “fake news” — employs Secret Service-level security at its downtown Atlanta offices.

The Capital Gazette is owned by the Baltimore Sun. Unlike CNN or MSNBC, the Gazette trains its reporters to avoid expressing political bias in their articles or on social media.

Davis said he and his co-workers dived under their desks when the shooting started. Davis, who covers crime for the paper, said the white male paused to reload his weapon before officers arrived and “surrounded the shooter.”
