Spice Wears White Face in New Music Video: Black Hypocrisy

Spice

Jamaican dancehall star Spice calls out the hypocrisy of people who discriminate against dark skinned women in her new music video "Black Hypocrisy".

Many in the Black community say Spice is a hypocrite for bleaching her own skin, but her light skin is just an illusion created with makeup and lighting.

The Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star calls out dark skinned sistas who use potent medications and skin creams to strip out their melanin so they can fit society's standard of beauty.

The video begins with Spice speaking at a meeting for B.L.A.C.K. women. The acronym B.L.A.C.K. stands for:

Lovely
Attractive
Courageous
Kind

Spice goes on to sing in her native Patois language:

I've done so many colors under the sun.. I'm going to keep the blue for a good while though. My job allows me to keep it blue as long as it stays dark.

    I love Spice and her music and I am glad she spoke out about this because I see this often... one of my clients she is the sweetest person but she bleaches and I want to say something but don't know what to say. I comment on all of her old pics before she bleached telling her she is beautiful but idk where to even start off the convo with her... its an old video moving around on IG I reposted it a while back on skin bleaching in the Caribbean they interviewed people who bleached and those who didnt.     I wear lashes when I go out and when I feel like putting them on for work. But my lashes are so thin and I hardly have any so if I tried to put mascara on, it would look like a clumpy spidery mess. You are right, everyone is unique!

We used to have Esoterica and Nadinola (excuse any misspellings) back in the old days and they called them fading creams. Bleaching is prevalent in our culture and has been for a very long time.

    My fav color, too. And yes, to achieve the different shades I had to initially bleach/lift my entire head a while back. I wait about 3 months of new growth before I lift it again but only my new growth. If I lifted all my hair every time it was time for a touch-up, my hair would get brittle and stringy and fall out. I learned my lesson back when I was 14 and was doing that. My hair was looking like overcooked spaghetti, it was a mess! I had to cut it all off and start over. But I learned after that mess, lol.

    I tried lash extensions a while back, too. Not only are they expensive, but like you said they take your lashes. That's why I just stuck with lash strips. They're easy to apply ,so many styles, and super cheap! But I'm gonna try y'all suggestions cause I would love to at least have full lashes ,even if they're not long. Thanks again for the tip!

    I finally got the hang of it. When I first started I had glue everywhere -- on my chest, on my tummy, on my hands, my wrist, my eyelids, under the eyes, on my nose! When I tell you everywhere I mean everywhere! I don't know how but I did. I stuck with it and now I can get them on easy in less than 5 minutes I'm done. I don't think I could ever tackle the individuals. You're good.

    Castor is rapid eyelash growth. Coconut doesn't penetrate the hair shaft, but it's a great oil and I'm sure it works for some, but Castor oil was shockingly effective-fast. This is the first time I've ever had lashes :-)

It made it seem it is an epidemic but the documentary interviewed people who made it seem trendy, like straightening your hair or tattoos. .. so I'm indifferent to the issue. Spice's song kind of gave me insight into how they interact within their culture. To say she looks dirty??...that's almost fighting words. But they have some amazing bleaching products there that I will recommend to people who want that type of cosmetic alteration. ..
