Babies who are born to illegal immigrants in America will no longer be entitled to citizenship if President Trump follows through with his plan to end birthright citizenship.
Calling birthright citizenship “ridiculous,” Trump declared his plan to sign an executive order ending the constitutional right to citizenship for babies born on American soil.
The president made the announcement during an interview on “Axios On HBO” on Monday.
Trump campaigned on ending birthright citizenship before he won the election in 2016.
On Monday Trump said America is “the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States.”
Scholars say Trump will have an “uphill battle” if he intends to end the birthright law.
“They’re saying I can do it just with an executive order,” Trump said.
