Kenya Moore was rushed to a hospital in Atlanta to deliver her baby son early due to preeclampsia diagnosis, according to published reports.
Moore, 47, took to Instagram earlier this week to post an image of her swollen feet and ankles.
She announced she had signs and symptoms of preeclampsia after gaining 17 pounds in one week.
On Wednesday, Oct. 31, Moore confirmed her preeclampsia diagnosis in an Instagram post.
“I will have to deliver #babydaly early,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star said. “But I’m being closely monitored to determine when.”
Preeclampsia is a potentially deadly pregnancy complication that occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy or in the days or weeks after childbirth.
The condition is associated with high blood pressure, chronic headaches, protein in the urine and weight gain.
The risk of preeclampsia is 61 percent higher among Black women than it is for Caucasian women.
There is no cure for preeclampsia, but doctors may induce early labor to save the mother’s and baby’s life.
Preeclampsia is one of the risks of getting pregnant after age 35. But any woman of any age can be diagnosed with preeclampsia.
“In mild cases, the recommendation is to deliver at 37 weeks,” Dr. Daniel Roshnan tells Us Weekly. “When it’s more severe, delivery should be done at 34 weeks or earlier based on the condition of the patient.”
