Laila Ali

Laila Ali issued an apology to an elderly man she accidentally backed into with her car in a parking lot in Calabasas, Calif. on Wednesday.

The elderly man was treated a hospital for minor injuries. He was in stable condition as of Wednesday, according to PEOPLE. The accident occurred around 2:42 p.m. local time at the 23600 block of Calabasas Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Ali was not issued a ticket for the accident, according to police, who said Ali was driving slowly when she backed into the man.

"Ali was driving slow in the parking lot. She wasn't impaired," police told PEOPLE. "The man is in his 90s, so if they fall down, they get hurt."

Ali took to on Wednesday to issue an apology to the elderly gentleman, and to tell her followers she was okay.

"As was reported, I was involved in a minor parking lot accident yesterday. I am okay, and am praying that the elderly gentlemen who was walking behind my car as I was backing up is okay. My daughter (Sydney) was in the vehicle, and she is okay too. I am thankful for the medical responders and LA County sheriffs department, both of whom arrived promptly and tended to the situation with urgency and calm. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me concerned."

  • SpiceGirl

    accidents do happen

  • SoulfulLove

    No rear camera tho?

  • ohdearme

Now THIS is what everyone should do when they know they're in the wrong, accept ownership of the situation and apologize. Good for her.

  • ohdearme

    Even those have blind spots.

  • SoulfulLove

I wonder what kind of vehicle it was. I have a rear camera but I refuse to rely on it. I will look around 50-11 times just to make sure no kitten, man, dog, kid or anything is back there.

  • Blue

I was gonna say she can run me over anytime but let me be mature and appropriate today.

  • iWasteTime

    why today ?

  • ohdearme

I can't be 100% but the pic on TMZ looked like an SUV. because she was clearly face to face with the officer standing at her car window.

  • jwoo250

I like the way she added the fact that her daughter was in the car and she's safe now. Chile like running over a old man going to cause damage. Hell if anything you damaged him. Only celebs can get away with this crap. They would had an ol regular person in a holding cell. I smell a paycheck.

  • Yoni7

Aww, that poor man. I hope he can recover from those minor injuries. What we may consider minor, is sometimes major for them.

  • Soda

She's probably going to have to do more than apologize. Ask Brandy, Venus, and Catelyn Jenner.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

    Maturity is overrated

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

  • Blue

  • Soon2BWife

She said I am ok first, but she ran over the man, uh we know you are fine. You hit him!!! She better lawyer WAY up.

  • Jordan’s Memory

Oh yeah believe me she already wrote that check for both his pockets and his medical bills. She just trying to get in front of this thing before the media spin it into something else. IDK why people pull into parking spaces, its much easier and safer for everyone to back in. to many blinds spot to back out of a space.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

Sandra can we get a post about Cardi's husband's side chick's tearful apology for breaking up their solid as a rock marriage?

  • Soda

  • Keyshia Ray

    Solid as a rock? ?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™
  • Jordan’s Memory

BOTH was at fault in the Venus situation. So I don't think anyone should have gotten paid.

  • Blaque Mahogany

Same and my car has camera angles around the entire car.

  • Jordan’s Memory

    She already has it posted.

  • Robert lee Bennett OG

Yup and made sure to tell everybody her daughter was safe... she self absorbed

  • SunRiseBlossom

Lord... she was about to rush the man's transition process!!! Thank God he is doing good. I bet his family try to sue her even though she apologized. People will appear out of no where and put themselves in harms way. I know pedestrians have the right away, but many people take full advantage of that and do not use sound judgment.

  • FukkFolks2018

He alright and she said sorry.

    But didjew DIE?

  • Yoni7

the media spin it into something else.
As always! It's disgusting how they do.

  • Yoni7

    Don't do THAT. LMAO

  • iWasteTime

Was that Jeb's son? He sure is Latinx.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™
  • Blue

    hush ... lol

  • Ni Ni

I've done it before and almost been hit myself. I especially hate walking behind a car that's teetering backing up around Christmas time, nobody's paying attention.

  • pecancandy

These celebrities always hitting and killing someone.......Brandy, Bruce Jenner, Venus. Is this some sort of initiation process!

  • Roderick2011

I agree but if this man was in his 90's he should have been in a nursing home and was probably someone who was homeless looking to get 'injured'.

  • Renee26

No back up alerts on her vehicle I see

  • Renee26

They may sue her because she apologized...admitted guilt... But if they do then they're triflin.

  • KcoolMuziq

Laila Ali is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!!!

  • Chaseboogie The Prince

It's called accidents, not intentions folks. Remember always look back, and left, right, left before taking off.

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

    whuuuuuuta SODA?

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

    Tight like glue

  • Knocked Kneed and Pigeon Toed

I swear these celebs are so used to having drivers that when they get behind the wheel they always hitting somebody. That old man is better than me tho because if I get hit by a celeb I'm going to the hospital with more than just minor injuries. I got my neckbrace and lawyer on speed dial. What's Up!?!

  • Soda

Stop it. President Carter is 90 something and he looked alert at the Bush funeral yesterday. Can't say the same for the heathens who currently occupy the White House. Interesting how all other living presidents prayed, even the so called Kenyan born Muslim, along with their wives but those two "Chrisitans"just stood there squinting with frowns on their faces.

  • morenYAHdelsur

    All lives matter...

  • Solstice
  • Keyshia Ray

If that was the case why did he cheat? Yea i will wait....

  • Logan Roberts

    Get well pops ?

  • Guess Who

Halle Berry, Laura Bush, Matthew Broderick, Ted Kennedy (well...sorta, a car was involved), Rebecca Gayheart, Howard Hughes, Hulk Hogan's son (sort of), J.R. Smith...the list goes on, smdh.

  • Ebony Starr

Studies say that the best way to avoid lawsuits is to apologize.

  • Ihatemoney

    No ma’am lol

  • T Willis

Sounds like the old man was trying to secure the bag before moving on to glory

  • ATL White Guy

Interesting that on Facebook when she updated her fans, the first person she thought of to say was 'ok' was her. You'd think if someone backed over a person, the first thing you'd think about was if they were ok.

  • Moon Lee

Somehow this sounds so wrong. I no this wasn't her intent, hopefully. It seems more about her, than the person hurt.

  • Lady_Elle

Good Point! Clearly she did not look. :-(

  • Lady_Elle

    I hope the man survives.
At his age the slightest trauma can be devastating.

Backing up w/o looking No Good!

I'm sure she is sorry... at the end of the day I hope the victim is ok!
Hopefully this is life-changing for her... SLOW DOWN!

  • Renee26

I hope it works in this case

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

that's why the comment was written in sarcasm font

  • ???TheRider???

She got the best of both parents. Her mother is stunning!

  • Bashi22

Hmmm sorry to hear about her mishap greatest part he’s still alive and well. Only sad part is the law suit coming. May both parties find a common ground to settle on.

  • Applebootay

praying that the elderly gentlemen who was walking behind my car as I was backing up is okay.

    In other words....LISTEN BISHES....accidents happen...

  • Applebootay

Mine don't be walking behind my car....walk your azz in the center to avoid being hit....

  • Applebootay

    For real tho....

  • Applebootay

But Forreal tho..I can't count the times I almost hit someone backing out of a parked space...looking both ways or can happen....only minor bruises...God is Good...Next...

  • Applebootay

these newbies given me gray hairs....

  • Applebootay

You just never know...I love to hear twisted, crazy conspiracy theories.

  • Applebootay

I have one and most times forget its even there....its probably more useful in parking lots than any other situation.

  • Renee26

? his family should've held his hand like he's a toddler

  • Ain’t Misbehavin

You caught that too... that was one of those "For clarity," moments!

  • Ain’t Misbehavin

You already know the family is going to try to crucify Laila, just cause....

  • PLEASEDontTellMe

    IKR!! (eye roll)

No backup cams ?? people in California got that bad just walking behind folks vehicles without a care in the world. The person might not see you and bam you hit .

  • Dee

I have a backup camera. Can't live without one. I live me some Laila Ali?

  • SmartAtheist

Oh was that your pelvis I just crushed? Ooooooo I'm sorry lmbao

  • Bossy704

Laila is also the author of the 2018 cookbook "Food for Life". That would make her a celebrity chef. Just something for future bios.

  • kennedy220

umm this is no different that an non-celebrity hitting and killing someone....the only difference is you're hearing about it it happens all day long

  • MsNewNew

I'm sure his family will sue if he passes. He's 90, he is already minutes away from the doors of Heaven but we already know how this all goes. I'm glad all parties are okay

  • brooklyn23

  • TheOwley

She was at fault, she needs to get ahead of this, don't wait for the lawsuit, just write a check and get a new car with camera safety features.

  • Bonita

People got that bad everywhere and it pisses me off. They will walk behind your car even though they see it moving, like they got body bumpers.

  • Dowoop

Yup I would not be getting up from that ground. You don't need to even be a celebrity, you just need car insurance.

  • IyanlaVanzantoftheInterWebs

What kind of car was she driving that didnt have a camera or at least a sensor to notify her of an object?

  • T Willis

That was “prevent a lawsuit” moment. She clarifying alright ?

  • T Willis

Naw, she’s letting folks know she got a WITNESS lol

  • T Willis

Naw, she’s letting folks know she got a witness (her daughter) , just case old man pop off...

  • Sydni

Lawd, forgive me for laughing at "minutes away from the doors of Heaven". In other words, he's so close that he can hear that music. LOL

  • ?jessica?

I say this with no disrespect........She better pray it wasn't a jew

  • brooklyn23

Right! You would think someone of her status that has a decent income would have a vehicle with a camera. But on the same coin flipside , sometimes people see you are backing up and decide to walk behind, like dem wanna be licked down. That shit get me tight because I drive with caution and sometimes I look and the coast be clear. Then boom....out the blue someone decides to walk pass while my vehicle is in motion. Smh

  • ?jessica?

I was thinking the same thing SMH ?

  • ?jessica?

"He is already minutes away from the doors of heaven" Lawd forgive me?

  • TheWildChild

Right ? cause folk be walking right into moving cars backing out of spaces. I don't have a backup Camera or beeping sounds. If I see a car moving, I move. Glad dude is alright. But can't stand people walking in the middle of parking lot all slow & in the way ? I pull up enough for them to feel the heat off my radiator to hurry along ??

  • DeeFromLA

Laila I'm pretty sure the 90 year old man wasn't on Facebook to receive your apology, just like I'm pretty sure you are not reading this message on right now. Im starting to get annoyed with all these nonsense apologies and over the top needs for attention. So she pretty much just wanted attention for rolling into an old man, because I'm pretty sure it did'nt make the news.

  • LA

I cannot stop laughing??? at that comment..

  • ClaireHuxtable

Imma get out of my car and lay on the ground. "My leg, My back...My neck!"

  • monique

Maybe she's had this car dor a while and it's not equipped with a camera. Maybe she did look behind her but when she turned around he stepped out. Her public apologybwas just that, for us to see that she's sorry maybe too. If she didn't, she would've been accused of trying to hide the accident.

  • ann

    Now wait a minute, I can't be laughing at this????I wasn't ready?

  • Malcom Flex

    Handsome woman.

  • Juliaquan C Spain

Girl you best to get that Cadillac Escalade because your driver seat vibrate if anything or anybody is near you when backing up....not like you can't afford one....but I hope everyone is okay..

  • JazzyBossyJen

    Haha me neither ??

  • gail jones

    Fa real

  • gail jones

  • Ricklaw

Thats fucked up man I got that slick ass comment

  • Ricklaw

What about that old man she ran over he’s the one that got tire prints on him not u

  • Malcom Flex

You’re absolutely wrong. I don’t make slick comments I’m out in the open?? I said she was handsome and I mean it some women are handsome.

  • Kimocha

Damn!... If he's 90 yrs old I hope he recovers OK... When you're that old it can be a minor accident and they still suffer serious injuries because of their age... even death!... I hope the old man is REALLY OK!

  • Queen B

Girl no one cares if ur okay bc we ain't asking. We're only concerned about that elderly man
