Wendy Williams’ viewers sat in stunned silence as she slurred her words during her Hot Topics segment on Thursday’s Wendy Show.
The 54-year-old daytime talk show Diva blamed pain medicine for her bizarre behavior. On Tuesday, Wendy returned to the show after a 2-day absence and explained that she fractured her right shoulder.
She wore a splint on her right arm which was concealed under a pink sweater.
But loyal viewers already noticed worrisome symptoms even before Wendy injured her arm. Some viewers noted that Wendy slurred her speech and seemed to suffer memory loss during previous shows.
Wendy also sat in a chair throughout her shows including while interacting with the studio audience.
But on Thursday, her symptoms were more noticeable. During her popular Hot Topics segment, Wendy discussed rapper Juelz Santana who was sentenced on Monday to 27 months in prison for trying to take a gun on a plane.
While discussing the rapper’s false teeth, the left side of Wendy’s face appeared to freeze. She struggled to get her words out. “You grab your, um, your luggage, and you grab your teeth… and you turn yourself… self in… and I would suspect that they weren’t gonna let you wear your teeth inside. So that would be the thing that you have, uh, there for you when you come out.”
“All right,” Wendy said, laughing nervously, as the audience applauded politely.
Later, in a lengthy post on Instagram.com, Wendy wrote:
“I sincerely apologize if you feel that today’s show was less than stellar. I’m on your TV screens every day wanting to spread laughter, entertainment and cheer. As I reported earlier in the week, I have a hairline fracture on my upper arm, which hurts like hell.”
She added:
“I’ve never broken a bone or experienced a fracture in my life. In the key place where the fracture is, and trying to scurry around and do too much, I am now paying the price. I’ve never taken a pain medication in my life (except when I got snatched over 20 years ago) until this week. I did that to power through and try to deliver a great show for you, against the better judgement of the many people around me who genuinely care for my well-being. I really do ride or die for my craft and give 200%.”
She mentioned her thyroid condition (she announced in 2017 that was diagnosed with Graves’ disease).
She concluded:
“I have no regrets and I appreciate everyone’s genuine concern for my wellness and care. I promise you a better Wendy in 2019. I will get some much needed rest and healing over these next couple of weeks. (Yes I am definitely juicing over the next couple of weeks). Sorry again. I love you all. Happy Holidays!”
Feel better Wendy. Happy holidays to you and your son.
