Kanye West and Kim-Kardashian-West

Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West have reportedly hired a new surrogate to carry baby number four. On Wednesday, PEOPLE confirmed the power couple is expecting another boy via a surrogate.

It was initially assumed Kim and Kanye used the same surrogate who carried daughter Chicago West. The first surrogate, who is Black, was a fan who met Kim on social media.

According to TMZ, Kim hired a new surrogate because the last surrogate recently gave birth to her own daughter.

Kim, 38, and Kanye, 41, who are parents to Chicago, 11 months, North, 5, and son Saint, 3, were forced to use a surrogate from an agency to carry their unborn son, who is due in May.

Kim turned to a surrogate after giving birth to Saint, when doctors warned her that a third natural birth was too risky because she suffers from preeclampsia and placenta accreta — a dangerous condition where the placenta attaches too deep, making it hard to remove after birth.

Kim was hands-on throughout her last surrogate’s pregnancy, according to WENN.com. Kim and her surrogate regularly visited the doctor together after the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star requested the baby be born in the Los Angeles hospital where her two eldest were delivered.

Kim, who refers to her surrogate as a “carrier,” was comfortable with her last surrogate because she maintained a healthy lifestyle.

“(We wanted her carrier to eat organically) which is just how she eats, so it was a good match for us,” she said. “I straight-up told her, ‘Look, I ate doughnuts every single day. If you want doughnuts and ice cream, go for it. Do whatever you feel.’ I’m not going to be picky like that. That’s just ridiculous.”
