XXXTentacion’s family has announced the birth of the slain rapper’s son, Gekyume Onfroy. The healthy baby boy was born on January 26 – three days after what would have been X’s 21st birthday.
X’s mom, Cleopatra Bernard, and the baby’s mother, Jenesis Sanchez, announced the arrival of Gekyume on Saturday, Jan. 26.
In a post shared on her Instagram Story, Bernard simply wrote: “Yume has officially arrived. We’re happy to confirm that baby and mother are healthy.”
She also explained the origins of her grandson’s name.
“Gekyume’s name is derived from a word X created prior to his passing, which means ‘a different state’ or ‘next’ universe of thought. XXXTentacion specifically chose this name for his first born son; his family is honored to fulfill his wish and shower baby Gekyume with love”.
After his death, his mother announced his girlfriend was expecting X’s baby. The announcement left fans confused. They initially believed the pregnant mom was the rapper’s ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala. But a fan pointed out Ayala commented “Congratulations” under his mom’s post.
X, who died at a age 20, is considered a legend by his legion of fans. He remains the voice of his generation.
XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shot and killed during an armed robbery outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida, north of Fort Lauderdale, on June 18.
Four men have been arrested in connection with his murder.
