Atlanta rapper Maco Mattox, better known by his stage name OG Maco, opened up about his battle with a necrotic skin infection he contracted 2 years after surviving a near-fatal car crash.

The accident halted Maco’s meteoric rise up the SoundCloud charts. He left Instagram abruptly but never explained why – until now.

OG Maco rose to fame with his only hit song “U Guessed It”. He was signed to Quality Control Records, whose roster includes The Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, City Girlz and more.

In a video on Instagram stories on Sunday, Maco explained his 3-month battle with the necrotizing infection on his face, which he says was caused by a flesh-eating bacterial infection.

“So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show all of a fraction of what I’ve been going through,” OG Maco captioned an image of his face in the original video he recorded on his Instagram stories.

The rapper spoke bitterly about his friends abandoning him after the infection worsened.

“I’ve been going through this for three months, and everybody I thought would be here, who I really thought I could depend on, wasn’t there, you know. People who I’ve given all of my love to and all of my everything to just didn’t show up,” he said. “It caused me to not really trust anybody or believe in anything. I went through really the worst of it. I’ve been scared a lot. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know if I was going to lost my entire face, I almost did.”

He also gave advice to others who contract a flesh-eating bacterial infection.

“Necrosis (dead flesh) or any kind of flesh-eating bacteria – if you had one or if you ever get one, just keep the faith. Follow, the, the regimen that your doctors or dermatologist give you. Um, make sure you follow it.”
