R. Kelly is under investigation in Michigan for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl and later infecting her with the herpes virus.
Kelly was taken into custody on Wednesday while attending a child support hearing at Daley Center in Chicago. A judge ordered the troubled singer remanded into custody for $160,000 in unpaid child support.
CBS 2 in Chicago reports the 52-year-old R&B crooner is being investigated for having inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in Detroit nearly 2 decades ago.
The victim told police she was visiting her mother in Detroit and made contact with a friend, who is Kelly’s assistant. Kelly and the alleged victim first had sex at the Detroit hotel on Dec. 30, 2001, sources tell CBS 2 investigative reporter Brad Edwards.
The woman, now 30, visited Kelly at his home in Atlanta for a period of four years, where she says the singer gave her herpes when she was 17.
She no longer lives in Michigan, but detectives plan to fly her in for an interview.
Kelly was previously charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of three underage girls and an adult female. He posted $1 million bond last week.
Kelly is currently being held without bond in a Cook County jail.
His next court hearing is March 13. He will need to pay $161,633 to his ex-wife Drea Kelly by then.
