A man was fatally shot at a birthday celebration at SL Lounge in Chamblee, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. The victim was later identified as Cliff Dixon, the ex-boyfriend of reality star Erica Mena.
Police say Dixon was celebrating his 32nd birthday on Wednesday, March 20, at the club in the Little Saigon strip mall when shots rang out around 1 a.m.
Paramedics rushed Dixon to Grady hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police initially declined to identify Dixon, but tributes began to circulate on social media, identifying him as the victim. Dixon was best known as NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s best friend.
There was rampant speculation on social media that the men argued over a woman before Dixon was shot.
The gunman fled on foot after the shooting. He is still at large.
Rapper Dave East was among the people mourning Dixon on social media Thursday morning.
“U was just in my session in Atlanta listening to my album this shit super wacc!!!! [sic] Rest in heavenly peace bro u ain’t deserve whatever happen to u,” he wrote.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from cameras outside businesses in the strip mall, Fox5 reports.
