Crayola is considering naming a colour after slain West Coast rapper Nipsey Hussle. The arts supply giant asked its social media followers to help name the cobalt blue Crayola crayon back in 2017. But now Nipsey’s followers are asking the company to rename the crayon in honor of the rapper’s favorite colour: Crips blue.

The Grammy-nominated rapper was gunned down outside his clothing store in Los Angeles in March. The 33-year-old had planned to meet with LAPD officials the next day. His documentary on controversial healer Dr. Sebi sparked conspiracy theories that Nipsey was killed to stop the documentary from being produced.

Nipsey’s friends and fans, including NBA superstar LeBron James, are calling for the crayon to be named “Nipsey Blue.”

In an interview with CBS Los Angeles, LeBron called Nipsey’s murder “one of the most unfortunate events that’s happened in American history.”

He added: “It’s so unfortunate when you look at a guy who believed in what he believed in, talked about how he wanted to give back to his own community, actually gave back to his community, and actually stayed in his community.”

Crayola is reportedly considering renaming the blue crayon after Nipsey’s favorite color, but the company is hesitant because of the rapper’s association with the notorious Crips street gang. Nipsey was an unrepentant member of the Rolling 60s Crips that ruled South Central Los Angeles since it was founded in 1969.

Nipsey joined the gang when he was a teenager. He glorified the gang lifestyle in his music.
