Just when we were wondering what Ciara was up to, she pops up in Taylor Swift’s new music video her Pride anthem “You Need to Calm Down”.
In one scene in the music video, Ciara, 33, officiates a same-sex wedding between 2 men. It isn’t clear if the Harvard graduate also went to Seminary school.
The “Goodies” singer clapped back at fans who attacked her as a Christian. “Firstly, Christians don’t judge. Secondly, #YouNeedToCalmDown,” Ciara responded to one Twitter troll.
Ciara joins a star-studded lineup in Taylor’s new music video that fires heat-seeking missiles at anti-LGBT protesters who disrupt events during Pride Month. June is Pride Month for the LGBT+ community in America.
“Why are you mad when you could be GLAAD?” Taylor sings. The line references the organization that promotes understanding, acceptance, and tolerance of the LGBT+ community. “We all got crowns/ you need to calm down”. Later in the track, Taylor speaks directly to anti-LGBT+ protesters as she sings:
-
Sunshine on the street at the parade
But you would rather be in the dark ages
Makin’ that sign must’ve taken all night.
And control your urges to scream about the people you hate
‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay
