Kevin Durant’s post season ended on a painful note when he went down after aggravating his right calf injury a few minutes into the 2nd quarter during Game Five of the 2019 NBA Finals on Monday night.

The Golden State Warriors kept their championship hopes alive with a 106-105 win over the Toronto Raptors in Toronto. But the team lost its leader Durant, who apparently re-injured his right Achilles.

After hobbling out of the arena on crutches, Durant took to Instagram to say he was “hurting deep in the soul”. But some social media users had their doubts that he was really injured at all. They questioned his desire to play.

Many pointed to the theatrical way he went down. It looked so fake that some fans in the Scotiabank Arena laughed out loud.

There was a lot of talk prior to Game 5, that Durant was ready to close this chapter in his career and move on to a new team with a max contract.

Social media numerologists say the numbers prove Durant was faking his injury.

“He got ‘injured again’ while the score was 39-34 (which totals to 73, like the 73rd NBA season),” wrote one YouTube commenter.

Twitter users were more blunt.

“Really? Looked fake to me. Desperately tried to squeeze out some tears unsuccessfully as well,” one user tweeted.

It was all too much for Durant’s beloved mother, Wanda Durant, who took to Instagram to defend her son’s integrity.

“For ALL of you who question my son as a Man, question his Heart, question his Integrity and question his LOVE for the game of basketball, you DON’T know him. He has a heart of a true Warrior! This too shall pass. God Bless you ALL.”

Game 6 of the NBA Finals is on Thursday in Oakland.
