Viola Davis will play former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama in the forthcoming Showtime series First Ladies. Davis and her life partner Julius Tennon will executive produce the project through their company JuVee Productions, Yahoo News reports.
The series will follow the lives of three former FLOTUSes – Michelle Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Betty Fordwomen – who were significant influences on American culture while their husbands served as president.
The Help star is also best known for her hit TV drama How To Get Away with Murder, which is in its sixth and final season.

MIchelle Obama should not have been chosen over Jaqueline Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, and Nancy Reagan. Laura and Barbara Bush made great gains in improving education for poor communities. I disagree with this comment. I believe she did far more than you are giving her credit for. The reality, though, is that being a black first lady may have helped so many young black boys and girls really believe that they can do more than what society often says they are capable of.

But Kerry Washington or Regina Hall wouldn’t be right for the part in my opinion, Kerry doesn’t have the right look or presence in my opinion and I haven’t seen enough from Hall to know if she’d be able to pull off a portrayal. Anyway, Viola is extremely talented so I’m ready to give her a chance to prove that she is actually the best choice over the others.
