A judge set bond at $1 million each for an Alabama woman and her son who are charged with murder after an argument over a missing dog.

According to court documents obtained by AL.com, Shakeem Butler, 24, and his 56-year-old mother, Shana Muldrow, were arrested Wednesday for the fatal beating of Joseph Minnifield, who police said was romantically linked to Muldrow.

Minnifield was dropped off at the Vaughan Regional Medical Center around 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 20. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at the hospital.

Muldrow initially denied knowing Minnifield when she was questioned by police.

She claimed that she was pulling into her backyard when she spotted a body in the middle of the street and decided to get help.

But a witness told police Muldrow and Butler struck Minnified multiple times in the face and body. The same witness said the argument started after Minnifield lost Butler’s dog.

Butler and Muldrow appeared Thursday before Dallas District Judge Bob Armstrong, who set their bonds at $1 million each.

They are currently in the Dallas County Jail. Their preliminary hearings have been set for Oct. 29.
