A female skydiver was killed when she drifted onto a busy California highway and collided with a semi-truck. The 28-year-old woman died when her parachute drifted over a busy highway and she was hit by a truck in Lodi, California on Thursday afternoon.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fresno Bee.

The fatality sparked chain reaction accidents that caused a 4-hour traffic jam on Highway 99 in northern California. The woman was attempting to return to Skydive Lodi Parachute Center in Acampo when she was killed.

Winds were blowing at 17 mph at the time of the incident, according to the NY Daily News. The winds were strong enough to prevent light aircraft from landing at a nearby airport.

“I drove by and saw the truck pulling over. There was a body lying on the (pavement),” Rich Edwards told the Fresno Bee. “I saw a [parachute] on the road and a bunch of people.”
