Kevin Hart was discharged from a hospital and transferred to a residential rehabilitation facility 10 days after he underwent emergency back surgery.
Sources tell PEOPLE Hart was “in good spirits” after undergoing surgery to fuse his spine that was fractured in three places during a serious car crash on Sept. 1.
The 40-year-old Jumanji star was transferred to a rehab facility for intensive physical therapy to help him walk again.
He was spotted leaving L.A.’s Northridge Hospital Medical Center in a wheelchair before being loaded into a van for the trip to the rehab facility.
“I’m grateful to be alive,” he reportedly told an unidentified source who spoke to TMZ.
The comedian was a passenger in his vintage 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when the driver lost control and the vehicle careened down an embankment on the night of Sept. 1.
Hart underwent emergency surgery on Sept. 2. He was said to be in extreme pain and on potent intravenous painkillers.
He is expected to spend up to 4 months in rehab before heading home to continue his physical therapy.
Hart reportedly pressured his team to downplay the seriousness of his back injury because he has movies and TV projects in production.
In a 911 audio obtained by TMZ, a woman believed to be Hart’s wife Eniko, 35, told a dispatcher he couldn’t walk and he was “not coherent” approximately an hour after the crash.
TMZ reports Hart’s car will be disassembled by the California Highway Patrol to assist in their investigation of the crash.
The results of their investigation may help change vehicle safety laws and require dealerships to install safety harnesses and airbags when selling vintage cars.
