Rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris debated conservative commentator Candace Owens during a panel at Sean Combs’ Revolt Summit in Atlanta over the weekend.
Many say the 39-year-old rapper, was unnecessarily rude to Owens who is a Republican and staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.
During one tense exchange, T.I. questioned President’s Trump infamous campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.”
“When you say Make America Great Again, which period are we talking about? The period when women couldn’t vote? The period when we were hanging from trees? The crack era? Which period in America are you trying to make great again?!”
Owens’ response was cut short by the mostly Democratic crowd.
T.I. pressed Owens to respond: “Which period was America great that we’re trying to replicate? Which era was it? Tell me!”
Through the boos, Owens said, “Here’s the thing that you guys are forgetting: slavery was all over the world.”
Her response brought even more boos from the packed audience.
“I can’t answer the question if you’re just gonna boo when I say slavery was all over the world, which is a fact. Why are you booing a fact?” she said.
“I wanna like you so bad, because you’re so smart,” said T.I. in a condescending tone.
When Owens said she couldn’t get her response in, T.I. responded, “You started with some bulls***!” which drew an even bigger reaction from the audience.
Owens checked T.I. for inciting the crowd to score “gotcha moments” for social media.
“I said I don’t like when you go for gotcha moments, like when you’re like ‘Oh you started with some bulls***.’ …When you’re trying to just fight people, we all lose when you do something like that. Everybody loses when you go for a gotcha. I know how… if you wanna hype a crowd ‘Oh it’s bulls***! It’s racism! Get on your feet! F*** this! We gotta do our s***!'”
Afterwards, T.I. posed with Owens for photos. But it is obvious from her body language that Owens doesn’t think much of T.I.
Many observers say Owens got the best of T.I., while others say the rapper “destroyed” Owens during the debate.
