Former musician Kanye West dropped the trailer to his much-anticipated IMAX gospel film “Jesus is King” on Friday.
The film is billed as a “one-of-a-kind experience” featuring songs arranged by West in the gospel tradition along with new music from his forthcoming album JESUS IS KING.
Jesus is King was filmed in the summer of 2019 and brings West’s famed “Sunday Service” to life in visionary artist James Turrell’s Roden Crater, a never-before-seen art installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.
The trailer opens with a graphic that appears to be golden steps leading up to a white obelisk as a Heavenly choir sings “Ohhhh! Saved by His Grace. It’s in His will. His will.”
The camera pans inside the white obelisk which is replaced by a blue background bearing a Bible verse.
“In the words of Jesus Christ, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the gospel.’ Mark 1:15.”
West, who is on the autism spectrum, understands better than most that today’s generation needs Jesus more than ever. He utilizes the power of imagery and art interacting with gospel music to reach the unwashed masses.
The film opens in IMAX theaters on October 25, 2019.
Limited tickets are on sale now at jesusisking.imax.com.
