Drake was booed off the stage by fans who expected to see Frank Ocean perform at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw 2019 music festival in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The 33-year-old Canadian rapper was shocked by the negative reaction as he made a surprise appearance during a headline set shared with rappers Lil Uzi Vert and A$AP Rocky, pictured right with Tyler.
According to WENN.com, it had been rumored that rapper Frank Ocean, 32, was scheduled to perform during the evening, so when the “God’s Plan” rapper stepped onstage, he was met with a chorus of boos from the crowd.
Cell phone video uploaded to YouTube by YeeterzTV shows Drake attempting to perform despite the booing at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.
Drake tried using a little psychology, telling the audience: “I’m here for you tonight. If you want to keep going, I will keep going.” But it didn’t work, as the concertgoers replied “Nooooo!”
Embarrassed and humiliated, Drake cut his set short by 20 minutes, telling the crowd: “It’s been love. I love y’all. I go by the name of Drake. thank you for having me.”
Following his quick exit, many concertgoers took to Twitter to share the news. According to one Twitter user, fans at the festival were expecting to see performances by openly homosexual rappers, such as Tyler, 28, and Frank Ocean (pictured left), but they got the closeted rapper Drake instead.
“Fans at camp flog gnaw were expecting that Frank ocean was gonna be the surprise guest headliner… they got drake instead.. safe to say… they rather Frank ocean.”
But others insisted Ocean had never been confirmed to perform at the festival, and they don’t know how that rumor got started.
“Tyler, The Creator never said it was Frank Ocean or gave clues about it,” one person tweeted. “That’s y’all fault for being mad and assuming s**t. It should be whatever that A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert and Drake were the mystery guest for Camp Flog Gnaw.”
