Dwyane Wade responded to online criticism from critics who said his son Zion Wade was dressed sexually suggestively in a family holiday photo. Many outraged social media users say Zion was dressed inappropriately for a 12-year-old child.
Actress Gabrielle Union posted a Thanksgiving photo that showed her minor stepson wearing acrylic stiletto nails and a cropped top that revealed his belly. Then-11-year-old Zion “came out” during Miami’s Pride parade in April.
Social media users blamed Union for posting the photo to divert attention away from the fact that she was fired as a judge on America’s Got Talent for being difficult to work with on the set.
Many accused the 47-year-old actress and her 37-year-old husband of promoting an agenda and “sacrificing” Zion to Hollywood pedophiles.
But Wade did not back down. In a tweet sent out on Saturday, Nov. 30, he called the criticism “stupidity” and vowed to continue to allow his son to dress sexually inappropriately for a minor.
“I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in – so i get it. But here’s the thing – I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”
Many liberal blog headlines defended Wade for allowing Zion’s sexually suggestive outfit.
Jezebel magazine referred to concerned social media users as “assholes” and the Atlanta-based magazine described Wade as an “excellent and supportive dad.”
Bet.com called social media users “trolls” for showing their concern for a minor child.
And E! Online also referred to social media users as “trolls” for reacting to a child’s inappropriate style of dress.
