TV personality Loni Love may take her relationship with boyfriend James Welsh to the next level by adopting a child with him.
In a recent segment of daytime talk show The Real, the 48-year-old co-host said she is considering adopting because 24% of children awaiting adoption are Black.
“You know what, there are 135,000 children that are adopted in the United States each year. For African-Americans children, they are overrepresented in the adoption pool. 24% of children, African Americans, are waiting for adoption. The population for African-Americans is only 13%. So, it’s double.”
Loni said her busy career and lifestyle might make it difficult to adopt a child. She also said adopting a child is a “very expensive” process.
“The thing about it for me is I would seriously have to think about it. One thing which might not be an issue for me, but it’s expensive to adopt. It’s very expensive. But also, more importantly, it’s about my lifestyle. I travel a lot. I would need some help. But I am thinking about it.”
Loni is still getting to know her boyfriend, James, whom she met on a dating app in August 2018.
“He’s a really nice guy,” she told PEOPLE magazine exclusively in April. “He hit me and I was like ‘Wow, he has really kind looking eyes’.”
In addition to comedy and acting, Loni is an electrical engineer who once worked on the General Motors assembly line in her native Detroit, Michigan.
