Lena Waithe and longtime partner Alano Mayo split just 2 months after announcing they they tied the knot in August.
The split was announced via a joint statement on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” the statement read. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
While their split seemed abrupt, sources exclusively tell lovebscott.com that their relationship was on the rocks long before they tied the knot.
Waithe and Mayo hopped the broom back in August 2019 at a courthouse in San Francisco.
“We didn’t make any announcements or a big… We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse,” Waithe explained during an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show. “Got married right in front of [late gay rights activist and politician] Harvey Milk’s bust.”
The ‘Master of None’ star told Degeneres the impulsive marriage was Mayo’s idea.
“[It was] her idea, as all good things are,” Waithe continued. “And she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.'”
But, according to lovebscott.com‘s sources — the quickie wedding came after multiple accusations that Waithe cheated on Mayo. Waithe reportedly agreed to the nuptials to satisfy Mayo.
Waithe and Mayo dated for several years before they got engaged on Thanksgiving in 2017.
