R&B singer and songwriter Ne-Yo has reportedly split from his long-suffering wife, Crystal Renay, ahead of their 4th wedding anniversary.
The “Mad” singer, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, tied the knot with Instagram model Crystal Renay in an oceanfront ceremony on February 20, 2016, weeks before welcoming their first child, son Shaffer Smith, Jr. They went on to have another son, Roman Smith, in 2018.
Ne-Yo and Crystal locked lips during happier times at the 2019 Latin American Music Awards in October 2019. However, Crystal has since decided to file for divorce, according to blogger The Jasmine Brand.
Ne-Yo’s wife, who goes by her married name of Crystal Smith, hinted at the split on social media. She removed all images of the singer from her Instagram profile, WENN.com reports.
Ne-Yo, who also shares two kids with his former fiancée, Monyetta Shaw, recently acknowledged the ups and downs of his marriage in a post to celebrate the New Year. In his post, Ne-Yo insisted he and Crystal were still “perfect for each other”.
Alongside a snap of the smiling couple, he wrote:
“2019 had its bumps and bruises, yes sure. But it’s not about the difficulty, it’s about one’s ability to realize when something is worth fighting for and one’s willingness to push thru to the potential greatness of a situation. There’s no such thing as perfect, a lesson we both had to learn and lock in. But perfect for each other is a real thing. And that’s you and me.”
