Christian rapper Lecrea has a message for social media users who make light of, or downplay the coronavirus outbreak.

For most healthy people, the virus is no worse than the flu. But Lecrae urged people to have empathy for those with weakened immune systems who can’t fight off the virus.

In a public service announcement on Instagram, Lecrae said, “Calm down, calm down, follow protocol… God is in control… He’s brought people through it – not without pain and not without suffering. Not without loss…”

He called out social media users who are making light of the outbreak, which causes symptoms similar to a common flu virus in most individuals.

But it can also cause severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or potentially fatal pneumonia among those who are vulnerable.

“Maybe you can get this flu, this virus, and be fine. But now you are at risk of infecting people who won’t be fine if they contract it. It could be critical for them. It’ll be fatal for them. And so let’s be mindful of those individuals.”

People most at risk for the virus are the elderly population, particular those with chronic conditions such as respiratory or heart problems.

Lecrae urged his followers to stay calm, wash their hands or use hand sanitizers. “Stay calm, be smart, practice protocol. This too shall pass,” he said.
