Jamie Otis looked around her home and was surprised to see her daughter’s environment was “so WHITE!”
Jamie made a decision to educate herself on how to combat racism by making important purchases for her 2-year-old daughter, Henley “Gracie” Hehner.
Jamie and her husband, Douglas Hehner, recently welcomed a baby boy.
“One of the first things I realized is change starts at home, with our children,” the Married at First Sight cast member captioned an Instagram slideshow on Sunday.
“And our home is so WHITE. All of Gracie’s toys are white (except for a cute doll our Fran @msjay1964 sent when she was born), her books are filled with white characters & most of the shows she watches are with white kids.? So, we bought Gracie her first black baby doll & some books where black kids shine.”
The former reality star added: “Of course she doesn’t even realize her new baby is black. Children are so innocent it’s beautiful. I want her to continue to love without even thinking about skin tones.”
Jamie, 33, decided to educate herself on racial issues after a Black man was killed in police custody in Minneapolis, sparking riots and looting across America.
