Joe Biden picked California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate in the 2020 presidential elections.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Biden, 77, said, “You make a lot of important decisions as president. But the first one is who you select to be your Vice President. I’ve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021,” Biden wrote in an email from his campaign to supporters.

The unpopular 55-year-old mixed race senator becomes the third woman to run as a presidential running mate.

Susan Rice, another close contender, tweeted: “My warmest congratulations to ?@KamalaHarris . I am confident Biden-Harris will prove to be a winning ticket. I will do my utmost to help them win and govern.”

Politico.com accidentally let the cat out of the bag in July when it leaked Harris would be Joe Biden’s choice for his vice president.

The Internet’s response to Biden’s pick was mixed. Many Blacks were relieved when Harris dropped out of the presidential race because of her tough-on-crime stance in California.
