Kanye West is serious about his quest to become the 46th president of these United States. The 43-year-old rap and fashion mogul has been added to more ballots in multiple states.
Utah is the latest state to add West’s name to the ballot. According to the Associated Press, West qualified for the Utah ballot as an unaffiliated presidential candidate.
State Elections Director Justin Lee said his office verified that 1,000 signatures collected by West’s campaign were from registered voters.
According to the NY Times, some Republicans are helping West, including Lane Ruhland, a lawyer who has worked for the Trump campaign, and Mark Jaboky, who worked for the California Republican Party.
West has hinted that his goal is to divert Democratic votes away from Joe Biden.
Some states booted West from their ballots, claiming the signatures were invalid.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the state Democratic Party filed a complaint against West for bogus signatures like “Mickey Mouse” and “Bernie Sanders”.
But West challenged the complaint, insisting that the DNC prove the signatures aren’t Mickey Mouse or Bernie Sanders.
Affidavits from six people say they were tricked into signing their names on West’s paperwork.
“If the affidavits are true, crimes were committed by the West campaign,” said attorney Michael Maistelman.
West’s campaign is gaining support. Biden has began to slip in the polls after picking Calif. Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.
