Social media was buzzing with fake news that singer Usher Raymond broke The Weeknd‘s nose in a brawl.
The Weeknd stepped out this week wearing stage makeup that simulated a busted nose and a split lip for VMA rehearsals in NYC. The three-time Grammy winner turned heads on his way to rehearse for the annual fan-voted awards show in a face full of bloody makeup and fake bruises.
The 30-year-old Canadian singer/songwriter dismissed the fight rumors, saying he and Usher never had beef.
“He’s one of the reasons why I make music,” the “Starboy” singer told Esquire magazine. “I have nothing bad to say about Usher. The sweetest, most down-to-earth guy ever,” he added.
Rumors spread that the two singers had beef after The Weeknd compared his music to Usher’s 2012 single “Climax” in a previous cover story with Variety.
“I hit him up to apologize and tell him that it was misconstrued,” he told Esquire. “Of course media blows things out of proportion and takes things out of context. Usher is a King and always an inspiration so it was flattering to hear what him and Diplo did on climax.”
