Rapper Saweetie is happy that she decided to be more open about her relationship with Migos rapper Quavo.
The couple’s relationship has endured during the coronavirus pandemic that split up other famous couples, including Quavo’s bandmate, Offset‘s marriage to rapper Cardi B.
Quavo and Saweetie have dated for two years but, in the beginning, she admits there were “a lot of false narratives that kind of surrounded our love,” mainly because “we’re not so transparent and we don’t share everything”.
In the beginning, some gossipmongers believed Saweetie was Quavo’s beard.
“It’s easy for people to put a narrative or a story behind something,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “And then other people run with it because they don’t understand.
“When they don’t understand, you try to make yourself understand, and that’s when all these rumors started circulating,” adds the “Icy Girl” rapper.
Many fans doubted the unlikely couple would stay together for 6 months much less 2 years.
The 27-year-old Cancer goes on to say she’s happy that her followers now understand and “admire” their relationship: “I think what they admire the most is that they were wrong.”
“I think they love it because I think they had an ‘a-ha’ moment where there’s like, ‘Damn… this is really genuine’,” she shared.
Saweetie thinks fans admire her relationship because they can relate to it.
“With anything, when you falsely judge something and then you figure out it’s better than what you expected, I feel like it creates some sort of like connection to it,” she said.
