Rapper Quavo issued a statement about his violent encounter with his now ex-girlfriend Saweetie inside an elevator last year.

"We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from," he told TMZ. "I haven't physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall."

Saweetie also broke her silence about the incident that occurred at her apartment complex last year.

The rapper said they "reconciled" and "moved past" the incident, but there were other problems that doomed their relationship.

"This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on," she said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the elevator incident. An LAPD source told TMZ they will interview Quavo and Saweetie separately.

Two weeks ago, Saweetie, 27, confirmed she was single after Quavo apparently cheated on her.

"I'm single," Saweetie said "I've endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character. Presents don't band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women."

Friends said Saweetie, real name Diamonté Harper, wants to start a family, but 29-year-old Quavo isn't emotionally ready.

They said he can't be taken seriously as a family man if he fights with a woman over a video game console.

Quavo and Saweetie's violent elevator incident is under investigation by The Los Angeles Police Department.

Quavo, 29, and Saweetie, 27, fought over a Call of Duty console case in an elevator at her apartment complex in California last year.

Some say Saweetie herself leaked the video to justify dumping the effeminate rapper.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they plan to interview the couple separately to determine exactly what happened.

The LAPD source said the elevator incident is playing out like a domestic violence situation where both parties are in the wrong.

Cops want to know if Saweetie or Quavo was abused by the other party during their relationship. Saweetie is seen swinging on Quavo.

TMZ broke the story, Quavo and Saweetie were both fighting over an orange Call of Duty console case.

Quavo spins his ex around and she slips and hits the elevator floor. He glanced down at her several times and then glanced up at the elevator surveillance camera.

He never once helped her up off the floor.

The City Attorney will likely review the case for possible criminal charges.

Rapper Offset, left, showed his support for fellow Migos group member Quavo Huncho, right, following the rapper's embarrassing elevator altercation with ex-girlfriend Saweetie.

Offset and Quavo are pictured in 2019 with group member Takeoff, center, who keeps a low public profile.

You know the story: TMZ obtained exclusive video that shows Quavo and Saweetie fighting over a Call of Duty video game case inside an elevator. The fight took place sometime last year at her apartment complex in Cali.

After video of the fight leaked, Offset 'liked' an Instagram comment by rapper Trouble that read:

"@quavohuncho innocent! Ain gon say it noooo moi!... Afta sh swung on em dawg even used da same call of duty case to hold da door open for da lady to get up an walk out. Yall Brazy af man [sic]."

The video shows Quavo struggling with Saweetie over a video game case.

She swings at him and he spins her around and drags her into the elevator, where she fell.

After the elevator reached her floor, Quavo held the door open with the Call of Duty case so she could pick herself up off the floor and limp off the elevator.

Fans took Saweetie's side in the drama. They say she rightfully dumped Quavo after she found out he cheated on her.

She's 27 years old and her biological clock is ticking. She needs a mature man to raise a family with, not a boy who fights over video games.

Saweetie and her ex Quavo had serious issues before she drop kicked him to the curb for allegedly cheating on her.

TMZ obtained surveillance footage from BACKGRID.com of the couple fighting over a Call of Duty case in an elevator.

The fight which went down at Saweetie's apartment complex in North Hollywood in 2020.

The video shows them struggling over an orange Call of Duty case. She swings on him and they both crash to the elevator floor before he gets up and leaves her sitting there -- apparently injured and in agony.

Quavo glanced down at her several times, then glanced up at the camera as they ride the elevator. At no time did he assist her to her feet.

Eventually, as the elevator door opens, a guy who apparently heard the fight decides not to get on with them -- and the door shuts.

When the elevator reached her floor, Quavo got off with the case -- and Saweetie picked herself up off the floor and limps off.

TMZ spoke with sources on both sides who say the minor altercation occurred in 2020 at an apartment building where Saweetie was renting.

Saweetie and Quavo parted ways earlier this year after she accused him of cheating -- which he denied. There were also rumors he repossessed her Bentley -- which he also denied.

Hot 97 radio personality Ebro Darden addressed his statements to rapper Saweetie that she says triggered her PTSD.

Saweetie, 27, was promoting her single "Icy Girl" in 2018 when Ebro asked her whether she was a "rapper rapper" or just another "pretty girl who raps a little bit."

Holding her microphone tightly with both hands, Saweetie replied, "I'm a rapper. I'm a rapper rapper."

Saweetie recalled the "gut punch" encounter with Ebro in a cover interview for Cosmopolitan magazine's April 2021 issue.

She said she felt "ambushed" by Ebro, who told her she needed to do more to "impress" him.

"It was a really dark point in my life. I went from being so loved so quickly because of 'Icy Grl' to, on my first promo run, well, you saw the interview. The script flipped really quick, like night and day. I was like, Wait... I had PTSD from that."

Ebro addressed Saweetie's statement that she suffered from PTSD after he questioned her free styling skills.

"Apparently having an opinion on her freestyle rap gave Saweetie PTSD," he tweeted on Wednesday, "should I feel bad?"

On the Hot 97 blog, Ebro clarified the situation further.

"You want to rap and it is just 'cool,' we gone tell you," he wrote in the comment section of a Neighborhood Talk post. "So happy for her success, but that doesn't mean we can be dishonest about freestyle... love @saweetie tho."

Their very visible internet relationship crumbled after Quavo, 29, reportedly sent a repo man to pick up a Bentley he leased for her.

The "Back to the Streets" rapper blocked Quavo on social media, changed her passwords, and moved on.

The rapper recalled a disturbing encounter with a radio host while on a promo tour for her first hit single "Icy Girl". She recalls the radio host ambushing her and flat-out insulting her freestyle as "basic".

The radio man told her she needed to do more to "impress" him. Saweetie describes feeling gut punched after the encounter.

"It was a really dark point in my life. I went from being so loved so quickly because of 'Icy Grl' to, on my first promo run, well, you saw the interview. The script flipped really quick, like night and day. I was like, Wait... I had PTSD from that."

She said those early experiences makes her more appreciative now.

"I'm really grateful for my start. Because the mistakes, the struggle, the grind—it allows me to appreciate the rewards that come now because I know what it feels like to sleep in motels, to drive and do promo, to be stressed out."

Saweetie and her grandmother launched a non-profit, The Icy Baby Foundation, to support single mothers, low-income communities, education efforts, and people living with autism.

"Money beats court cases, money buys medicine, money fixes potholes, money puts food on the counter, and money keeps the heat and electricity going. So if I can spread the wealth, that's what I want to do."

Rapper Saweetie reached a milestone in her career with her highest debut on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

A week after earning her third RIAA certification for her single "Tap In," Saweetie's "Back to the Streets" premiered at No. 76 on Billboard's Hot 100.

The song, off her upcoming Pretty B*tch Music album, is her highest debut ever on Billboard.

Saweetie, best known as rapper Quavo's girlfriend, earned ridicule and scorn when she urged women to throw away their men if they don't splurge on a Birkin handbag.

The coveted Hermès Birkin bags retail for over $20,000. But gently lived-in Birkin bags can be found on eBay or other sites for less than half that.

Saweetie apologized for causing an uproar online with her controversial comments about Hermès Birkin bags, insisting they "symbolize a gift of value" in a relationship.

Last week, the "Icy Grl" rapper made blog headlines after her boyfriend, rapper Quavo gifted her with a Birkin in honor of the success of her new single "Back to the Streets."

She took to Instagram Live to tell her fans, "If he not getting you a Birkin, if he not paying for your bills, then throw that n***a back to the streets, OK?"

Saweetie immediately came under fire for her comments. Sensible women called out the 26-year-old for putting material objects above healthy relationships.

In a new interview, Saweetie said her comment shouldn't be taken seriously and that she's "an entertainer and I come to entertain."

Saweetie compared herself to rap mogul Jay Z: "So that was an entertaining comment. Like Jay Z says at the end of "Ignorant S**t," he goes, 'It's only entertainment,' and then he does this little evil laugh," Saweetie told Power 106 Los Angeles with Bryhana.

"I was having a good time, promoting 'Back to the Streets.' And, you know, I'm popping my s–t for my girls."

But she continued to insist that Birkin handbags, which retail for over $20,000, make a woman feel valued. "I feel like a Birkin symbolizes a gift of value," she said.

She continued:

"But what comes along with being valued? It comes with a healthy relationship. It comes with communication. It comes with getting gifts. It comes with being spoiled, because at the end of the day, we create life ... Women are magical creatures and we deserve to be treated like a queen. So that's what I meant by that statement."

The rapper, real name Diamonte Quiava Valentin Harper, added:

"A Birkin is symbolic. Get her a purse, get her some jewelry - of course, according to your tax bracket. I don't want you to clean out your savings to try to keep up with social media or society... It was a quick comment that represents how I feel women should be treated, which is showered with gifts, OK?"

Rapper Saweetie is happy that she decided to be more open about her relationship with Migos rapper Quavo.

The couple's relationship has endured during the coronavirus pandemic that split up other famous couples, including Quavo's bandmate, Offset's marriage to rapper Cardi B.

Quavo and Saweetie have dated for two years but, in the beginning, she admits there were "a lot of false narratives that kind of surrounded our love," mainly because "we're not so transparent and we don't share everything".

In the beginning, some gossipmongers believed Saweetie was Quavo's beard.

"It's easy for people to put a narrative or a story behind something," she tells Entertainment Tonight. "And then other people run with it because they don't understand.

"When they don't understand, you try to make yourself understand, and that's when all these rumors started circulating," adds the "Icy Girl" rapper.

WENN/Avalon

Many fans doubted the unlikely couple would stay together for 6 months much less 2 years.

The 27-year-old Cancer goes on to say she's happy that her followers now understand and "admire" their relationship: "I think what they admire the most is that they were wrong."

"I think they love it because I think they had an 'a-ha' moment where there's like, 'Damn… this is really genuine'," she shared.

Apega/WENN.com

Saweetie thinks fans admire her relationship because they can relate to it.

"With anything, when you falsely judge something and then you figure out it's better than what you expected, I feel like it creates some sort of like connection to it," she said.

Question: Did you think Quavo and Saweetie would last this long?
